    Talking Fixed speed cameras

I was coming down godley road today, towards the speed camera,I was thinking if you were going too fast heading towards the camera, surely they wouldn't be able to give you a ticket,as we only have number plates on the rear...

Not that I'm speeding down that road, was just thinking....

My weekend job was delivering produce last year in the mount.
As you expect, we did get tickets every now and then from the same camera.

We always got the pics to identify the driver, and as far as I can remember they were only ever shooting the vehicles traveling away from it.

I haven't yet tested that theory but I also know that the stationary cameras use markers on the road to determine the speed, which I only spotted the one lane going away from the camera.

That's why I think they probably don't bother to shoot vehicles coming towards the camera.

I'm probably wrong, but at least I sound smart. =D

i thought they used magnets under the road like the ones they use to trigger some traffic lights.

Fixed cameras use inductive loops, mobile use microwave (K-band for the new digital, Ka-band for the older type). And both mobile and fixed cameras operate in both directions.

I wouldn't want to test out that theory...

but it would be interesting to know whether they only do traffic going away from the camera..

Actually ... not long after speed cameras were first introduced, that theory was tested. The Bike, and rider was distinctive enough in the photo, to get a successful conviction ... custom paintjobs (and your name on your leathers) can be your downfall ....

Cameras only point one way,and you only have one number plate...
Easy to work out ..if the camera is pointing at your front stick one finger up as you trip it off.If you are going the other way point the front wheel in the air and the number plate to the ground thus rendering it unreadable....but hey someone told me that.
