Just spoke to directly to forcasters. Southerly front in Cook Strait and hitting Wgtn soon. (next hour) Waiarapa will get the worst of it. Temp has dropped 4deg already, winds will be over 20knots. The rain band on the rader extends down to ChCh which means it will be raining for some time. Basically by the middle of today it will be like mid winter at Martinborough. Not good for bikes I'm afraid
Experience......something you get just after you needed it

I'm looking at the tukas from my dining room window - big black clouds.

Mother-in-law says its raining on Akatarawa Road (they're just down from Staglands).

I think we should do this next Sunday. What do you guys think?

It's not the same if we're not on bikes is it?

Yep I'm keen. Plus I have only ridden there once before and wouldn't know where to go!

Someone (maybe Sels1) made a suggestiton to do it a month afterwards, which I'd been more keen for. I can't make it next Sun which is the prob, but if everyone else can, then go for it. My vote's for in 3 weeks time though. (Or preferably next Sat, but I don't think Sat is usually good for lots of people?)

Guys - Sels1 esp, thanks for the offer and thoughts of the ride, I'll keep up with what's going on here and be at the "ride" when it happens.

We contacted a mate over the hill who said it was absolute shite, so its a given to not go on a bike, we're going over in a cage today and will see you guys on the road sometime.

I'd be happy to do both. There was some discussion on Friday night about a cross being made up for the site. Perhaps the 29th would be a good time to go and install it; I'd like to go before then (personally) just to lay some flowers.

Thanks, for the thoughts of contacting me,

I did say rain hail or shine, not into wind, and I'm at the mercy of a rider who I haven't met yet. Ben's going to drop off the SP1 now, but will be along when I go...

Please don't take my non-attendance and a lack of caring, but I'm staying at home today. It's raining in Upper Hutt at the moment. I'm definitely for the idea of the ride being a month after the funeral. But, since I'm out there any sunny weekend, I'd like to pay some more respects as soon as possible (has to be a weekend, and sunny, so not before next Sat).

I guess we don't all have to go as a huge group, but I need to go with someone who knows where it is.

    Dave.

Not lack of caring at all Dave, I understand, esp from the point of view from the corner in a hoody. It was yukky.

I went over today and you're right, need to go with someone who knows where, we found it by reading the articles and looking at the photos.

Went over in the car, it was really cold outside and not very nice for motorbikes, definitely do-able, not_enjoyable, weather wise. Ben was spitting tacks all the way over the Takas, could've taken the bikes, but it really wasn't nice.

There is still a lot of debris on the corner at the moment, I don't think it will be there long though. She's a bit of a dangerous corner to hang out on, need I say be careful, please take care if you are going out that way. I have also just read of another motorcycle fatality in the weekend, it's never easy to learn of such events, especially considering the number of friends we have who ride, all over NZ.

I also met the husband of the nurse who attended the scene today, friendly farming community, it was nice of him to stop and see that we were ok, also to introduce himself.

I hope now that we can organise a true memorial ride on an occasion that suits people, its a truly decent, spirited thought, and one that will be timely, whenever it occurs.

I would like to see a group ride for Sam that takes in the site (place a cross?) and the Haywards.

    The Question is:
Shall we try next Saturday, or Sunday or the 29th?

I am sorry Sam's m8 that they had not cleared the area, you didn't really need to see all that.

I am up for any Sunday that looks good as I am a fair weather rider ). I'll keep up with what gets organised and will be there.

    Take care everyone.

Thanks flyin's m8 for sharing. We will definitely organise something.

Me too - either would suit me.
