You guys crack me up. Watching all those that try to keep up with the faster riders was hair raising. I was rusty and kept my own pace with a cruisy ride.

I had a great time too. I woke up a bit late and didn't get to the AB until 9:50, but I knew the route and caught up the newbies on SH22 and everyone else on one of the stops. Sorry if I startled any of you newbies when I passed you, I tried to do so safely. I think it way Kray on the yellow vtr250 leading you guys?

Ridge road was interesting, hadn't been that way before so took it fairly easy. There was at least one hill crest where you couldn't see what the road did, and just over the hill was a corner and the road (being on a ridge) dropped off fairly sharply at the sides, I could imagine someone flying over the hill and ending up clearing the fence and into the paddock if they weren't careful...

I was pretty happy with being able to keep up with some of the bigger bikes on the day down, but it was a bit frustrating being stuck behind people on the corners that would then accelerate away on the straights, and me on the 250 didn't have the grunt to pass.

On the way back I took it a bit more easy.

Chickenfunkstar and your mate (sorry, I'm bad with names) I hope you guys got home ok. I was following you for most of the way up 22, but turned off towards pokeno because I wanted to head up ridge road again.

I had a bit of a moment after that turn where you were showing the way! (I'm not saying it was your fault or anything, just that it happened).

There was a bit of water running across the road on the corner you were sitting at, and I didn't see it until I was on top of it, so the bike wiggled a little bit as it lost a bit of grip over it, but all was ok.

    Time for dinner and more

Well that would have to be the greatest turnout for a "KB ride" I have personally been involved with. There were so many bikes that we decided to change our route somewhat and ride up SH1 to the Bombay turnoff and then take an easier way to Tuakau and onto the infamous 22. It worked too - no one got lost as far as I am aware and all 'starters' made it successfully to our first rest stop just past the Tuakau bridge...JSG's favourite spot!

Weather and road condition was ideal for the entire ride, with the exception of a light rain shower as we lunched at Hamilton. Tks for leading the way to our lunch spot dss3!

BIG thanks to MR for organising it and for those other 'helpers' who assisted the noobs and made the route clear for others by stopping at the major intersections! There was a great atmosphere all round and it was good to meet heaps of new KBer's and non-KBer's alike!

Now that I've had my 7 hour weekly riding fix I feel rather exhausted...certainly looking forward to the next one!

Oh, and "sexiest bike of the day" IMHO goes to Duckman's black Gixxer600....very nice. (when do you think it will be fully run in Mr D??)

Why the hell did you just edit ya post that was above????? it was a good explanation of what happened with the 2 trucks you and Ricksta..... people could have learnt from that post.
Even if it plainly said that Ricksta passed when he should have waited.

ps: the post was contradictory to the edited one quoted in this post

It sounds like a very good ride and a very good turn out.

I'm regretting that I and Li'l Rat Bike couldn't make it, but I had to cage Mrs Ixion to Wangamata today.

However : [Nana mode ON ]

Three fucking crashs by new riders .

WTF. Sorry, don't tell me they were all "minor crashs". There is no such thing as a minor crash. At this rate it's only a matter of time before someone doesn't get up from one of these "minor crashs".

For the sake of all the biker gods, SLOW THE FUCK DOWN. At least on the corners.

And I do think that the more experienced riders do have a part to play in the slowing down of the new chums. If not for reasons of responsibility and humanity, then for purely selfish ones. If some young kid buys it on SH22, you can guarantee there'll be such a police presence on that road that no-one will want to ride it for a long time to come

Sorry matey...... yup it was you.

Yeah, too much braking while the bike was (relatively for me) leant over and it got pretty unstable. Managed to correct it quickly and safely but there was a good second or two of "oh feck" sentiments there. Especially with a faster rider sitting behind me waiting to pass.

Reading all this has sort of put me off coming along on a KB ride.... Think I'll stick to riding with one or two mates or by myself...... Sounds like a group ride with KB is just a race.

Well I thought he might like to explain it himself

And we were cruising along nice and easy.... I guess he just picked the wrong time to pass or didnt see the on coming truck for some reason or something!

Yeah that was you Alex, JSG told me about his scare further down the road and I remembered that you were sitting on that corner, which is one of the more dangerous ones along 22, especially if you're not familiar with it.

Btw Alex, I really enjoyed following you back up 22 after Hamilton, you ride a good line into the twisties at a really solid pace! <-- Give that man a 600cc sooooon.

Yeah not long after aI peeled off from the group as I was getting a little tired and the pace was a bit hectic while not on full game.

Is looking more towards a XR as next bike, learn to ride like motu etc a take the path less traveled rather than a tyre blistering corner taking beast.

oh and if anyone finds my WOF tag?! oh and I found a cell phone as well tele flip thingo it has been run over though, going to take it to uni tomorrow and wire it up so it goes?!
