How far can you go?

Just got back from Picton/Nelson holidays. Took the Thunderbird up there on Boxing day, 1 up & stinking hot. Got to Picton, 339kms on 1 tank. Thought that was pretty cool (never had a bike with that range before). Went to fill up in Picton, & despite the trip computer thingy telling me I could do another 25kms, it only took 17.5 litres to fill (22 L tank).
It got better on the way home. Fill up at Wakefield (just out of Nelson), 389 kms later I pull up into the local servo, 17.5 litres is again all it took. This time the trip comp. said 30kms remaining. I'm beginning to think 450 is acheivable (but would hate to look like a dork in the middle of nowhere with a dry tank).
Pretty stoked anyway . Bike is running great with a little over 3100kms now.

I have an 18L tank and can squeeze 297km out of it. I know this because I ended up in the middle of nowhere looking like a dork . Luckily I knew I was running out of fuel with about 60klm to go so called the wife in advance and only had to wait 10 minutes for her (and the can of fuel for the lawnmower) to arrive. :

I can only dream of getting that far, 240kms and yes i too was a dork rofl, But really happy that the wife was only minutes behind me coming home from work. Think mine is a 21 ltr tank and once that little light come on it find fuel fast

normally get around 270 kms

My maximum is 243 km not bad consider and yes i had a small container of fuel to get me to the nearest petrol station .

holy crap? You going balls out all the time or something. Local blackbird round these parts will do ~350ish on a tank and its kitted with a PC3 and hes not that nice to it.
The 9 will do a confirmed 307km to a tank and is a bitch to push.

The ST1300 has a huge 29L tank on it, and I have had 525 km's out of it - it's a nice feeling to have that sort of range available, especially when some whippersnappers on KTM's are chasing and passing you on the Grand Challenge!

Last time I did Rangivegas to Picton non stop the tripmeter said 325km and it took 21litres which worked out at 15.47km per litre, supposedly the tank holds 24 litres, so I still had a bit in reserve.

Later this year the bike will be going on the dyno to see about getting rid of a couple of flats spots, it will be interesting to see if there is any improvement after that

17.5l is almost exactly 80% of 22l. Sounds like the trip computer has the concept of a "reserve" tank built it - it just starts when the display goes to zero.

Yesterday went from Dargaville to Palmerston North and i get about 250 to a tank on the lowrider before i gotta fill up

hmmm interesting reading. Recently rode from Auckland to Wellington and back on my 99 Roadking. While I keep a docile speed I manage to squeeze 220km from a tank so have to fill up twice on my journey. While I do a bit of AKL city traffic, my range is more around the 150km mark. Only have a standard tank, 14L refill usually but with a huge reseve when the light goes on.

That's pretty damn impressive, alright, from the T-Bird.
Anyway, I have a '96 TDM850 - 20l tank @ 18km/l = 360 kms before fumes. I like to fill it before that happens, though.
Fuel usage has been averaged over 16 mths and 25k kms.
The economy has been worsening slightly over recent times; I suspect the well-reported TDM850 needle jets may need replacing.
