It was an excellent trail ride as usual - a mixture of bulldozed trail with little jumps, native bush section, redwoods and a stream crossing. With the added bonus of a sausage sizzle and a beautiful swimming hole right near the track to help wash off the dust.

They are running an afternoon trail ride on Wednesday 6th January - can't wait!

Is it suitable for beginner / novice riders? I'm taking my bike up to Cooks Beach after a ride in Taupo for NYE so Whangamata would be a nice little day trip!

Yes - suitable for beginners and novice - when it's dry. If there has been a lot of rain, it's clay so the hills get a little tricky, but at this time of year it would need a good dose of rain to do that. There are about 2 or 3 short (2kms approx) novice loops, but the main loop (approx 15kms) is easy - even I can ride it!

Sweet, thanks for that. What's the price for the ride?

If the fish aren't biting I might pop down and have a play.

Should be a hot dry ride tomorrow. I'm heading down from Cooks early to make the most of the cooler morning conditions.

Will be heading down by myself in a black Accord Euro so feel free to say hi if I'm looking lost.
