    Smile Back in the saddle

Well, I'm probably starting to sound like a broken record here, but WOO HOOOO!! first jaunt out on el bandito since my surgery. (Had the plate put in on Dec 9th, and on Christmas Eve had my first outing of three on the back of Balu's burger).

Surprisingly my jacket did not aggravate the scar at all as I'd expected, but I did find the ride this afternoon out to Clevedon and home just a good length for my first ride. There was a bit of tenderness at the top of my shoulder initially, but no problem at the break site. It took the first 10 minutes or so to start to feel comfortable on the bike again, but by the return ride home I felt like I'd never been off it.

How soon have others been back (in the rider's seat) after having surgery? (Mine was collarbone btw).

p.s. will update my blog after seeing the specialist again on the 29th of Jan. Fingers crossed that the xrays will show good news!

Its hard to stay off the bike after surgery, so good on ya. I waited 5 weeks after my back operation.............. but bending over a sports bike is hard to do, and then it was about 7 weeks after my hip operation. Thank god I'm all good now - love my bike, and won't stop riding until I can't.

Ahh my fine lady of musical endowment, your talent and boundless zeal for the art of two wheels of locomotion is most refreshing indeed! I durst not hope that such a favourable and quick return to your trusty steed's saddle was in the books! Good on you for seizing the bit and doing what all bikers know what to do best. Just go and ride! I do hope we can meet on our merry meanderings through the countryside on a serendipitous moment!

Yeah, everything else I was born with Everything else that hasn't broken yet

Never broken a bone in my body though............. tired of people telling me I'm too young to have a new hip.......... and yip! I am, but my parents must've been in too much of a rush when they made me, cause it didn't last the distance. But I'm all good now.

Still, nothing will keep me off my bike for long

You tend to find ways around physical condition. I got back on 6 weeks after a broken femur and pelvis. Had a backpack with my crutches in for when I stopped, took 3 months before I could get it on the centre stand though...

    well done PB.

Little and often. 3 or 4 rides a day should do the trick.

What did you have done? I remember reading it somewhere but in my blondeness I have forgotten.

I wish you a speedy recovery so you can return to riding in the style you have been accustomed too.

Goodonyer! But do listen to the body, doesn't help to aggravate the injury and thus prolong the recovery. Better to be gentle until it is strong enough, otherwise may cause issues down the line.
