    Whats an XT550 Worth?

Hey all I'm looking at buying a dual purpose bike as sometimes on the road bike I wish I could be off roading.

I know someone with an XT550 thats in mint condition and recent rebuild (wasn't really required but owner looks after his toys very well). He doesn't use it anymore so thinking about making an offer.

It's not road registered or kitted out for road use and being in the electrical trade I have no problems doing so in the future, just trailer it for now.

Dunno what they are worth, but imho they are one of the best looking trail bikes ever made.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

What are you planning on using it for? If it's for Adv riding it'll need reg and warrant and will handle these rides fine. If it's for trail riding there are alot of better options out there than an old heavy pig of a bike like the XT550. I'd offer 1k, If it was mint original and registered maybe 2k.

Trail riding for now and get it road legal over winter and use for adv riding.
I'd have the option of paying off this bike with no interest & no deposit and I enjoyed riding it and I'm used to later model bikes

Something to keep me on 2 wheels when I sell my 250 and look for a 600 sport.

Be very careful. If you start adv riding you won't want a 600 sport.

I plan to have an adv, 600 sport or VFR800 and maybe a 250 track bike by end of this year.

I love sports bikes as much as off roaders.

Be careful as parts (2nd hand) are hard to come by.My XT600 uses a few XT550 parts and just trying to find something like a clutch casing, which is a common part between both bikes,is getting hard to come by.
But having said that,if it's been looked after,it should be a good bike.I had one for a couple of years at high school and I regret selling it.
As for the weight,a DRZ400 is similar in weight,so they're not too heavy.

I sold mine back in 1997-98 for $1800 to a German student, who had been in the country for a week and had never ridden a motorbike! It did survive as I saw it about 5 years later being re-registered
    Nevermind the Bollocks
