For reasons unknown to me, but none-the-less,
Big Blocks have the final drive on the left hand side (facing the rear of the bike)
Sportsters have it on the right.

They also had shifters on opposite sides....back in the 60s before the Yanks made everyone do it all the same (heel click and stiff arm salute, freedom of choice....yeah right) Yamaha dirt bikes of the late 70s and 80s had a right side chain...heaps of YZs with no motors around as they used them in karts, but it was a major to put any other motor into them,I had heaps offered to me,but just couldn't be bothered doing the work to put anything else in.
ok,not heaps,more than one??

Anyone ever put a real XR750 onto the road? (By real XR I mean the all alloy, flat track model).
BTW the exhaust pipes on the Storz are on the wrong side, they should be on the left, Also the XR had two "front" cylinder heads, with 2 Mikuni carbs.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

Dont forget the lack of front brakes.Originally Posted by pete376403

Not on the TT - they did left and right and a jump and had brakes.Ever seen a TT race? I've only seen one I caught on Sky once - it's like a flat MX track and they fucking moooove! The jumps are low and long, very fast - there is a corner after the jump and they throw the bike sideways midair and land fully crossed up midcorner....my jaw just dropped,I've never seen anything so bloody fast and dangerous in my life!! In the 70s they used 750s on the TT tracks,in the 90s the Rotax bikes, dunno what they do now.Originally Posted by White trash
