I got sick of being tail-gated by motorists (and TRUCKS - scary!) when I was on my learner's licence, but then realised that most motorists have no idea you are restricted to 70kph at that stage. I reckon the powers that be should run an education campaign to make motorists aware of this fact - I think most of them thought I was being a girl (well, I am!) or doing it to piss them off - which is why I ended up tucking the tiny (and illegal) L-plate I had attached to the number plate up behind it.
I went through the new licensing system just as they were changing to the graduated one and what a balls-up. I ended up with a paper learner's licence that expired on May 35 1999, then I had a restricted motorcycle licence and full car licence (correct), followed by a restricted motorcycle (after I'd passed my full licence) and full car again - finally I had the right one but it took weeks to get it reissued. Not to mention the times I turned up to have my photo taken or my eyes tested and their machines weren't working. The day I arrived for my full licence test the guy didn't even have my booking (they'd done it manually because, you guessed it, their computers were down) and once I'd passed my test they found they couldn't issue my licence because it hadn't been six months to the day since I passed my restricted! Thankfully they didn't ask me to sit it again, but they wouldn't issue my licence for another three weeks! If their computers had been working the day I booked the full test, it would have been picked up and I would have had to sit it later that month, but they figured I'd been mucked around enough by then and let it go!
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!
