Date of new bike rego charges?

Here's the thing: I need to register the bike on 20 January. If the criminal masterminds at ACC have their way the rego fees are going up from their already too expensive state to an even more expensive state. My thought was that if the effective date for the increase was, say, 1 June 2010, then I would register the old girl now for three months or whatever, then when it was due, get it for a year at the lower rate prior to the increase.

It might save me a hundy or so. Enough for a pizza and couple of beers anyway. Or a trackday or something.

But I can't find anywhere when the new ripoffs come into effect: presumably I am not searching on the correct terms. Anyone know?

    15 months is the maximum
if you wait till then they may have already put up the fee i.e. the fee will be charged pro rata
I am in the same position and i am thinking if I am going to pay it pay 15 months now to be safe

and what is more, there is a special form at the Postshop called an MR27, which anyone can use to CHANGE the date their re-registration falls due. My renewal date was 27 July.
I too was concerned that as soon as the new charges are promulgated, there will be a pro-rata charge for the part of the rego AFTER 1 July, so I changed my date to 15 jan and took out 15 months.

However, I will be checking in the last week of June to see what the story is then, and if it's not pro-rata, I will be re-changing my date to last day in June, and taking out 15 months from then.

I can't imagine they won't fix this loop-hole sometime between now and 1 July, though.

    I don't think they'll close the loop-hole.

All this extra cash they'll be getting paid in advance will be just what they want and when the renewals come up the following year the board of ACC will be able to pay themselves obscene bonuses based upon their outstanding performance improvement.

Like most computer systems, it will be so hard coded and fucked up that to implement pro-rata will take far too long and be way too costly. Basically, if the computer system doesn't currently support mid term increases, then it won't be implemented for this one.

Exactly. Fill out the MR27 for a date late in June, the computer calculates the partial refund, and you pay the difference.

    pass the word.

So if mine expires March 22, it would be best for me to put 3 months on until June 22, then put 15 months on from there?

MR 27 Changing Licence Expiry Date

I have just picked up the MR27 forms and it is clearly stated on them that you cannot bring your date forward (ie to fall before 1 July). To quote the form:

"The new licence expiry date cannot be prior to the current licence expiry date or more than 15 months from the date of application"

So where your current licence falls before 1 July, then it looks a great idea to use the MR27 to reset the date to just before 1 July and then when that is due to expire to reset the date again to 15months forward from then. It would seem that if your current license falls after 30 June then there is not much you can do - at least not by changing the date forward. (sorry if this repeats the above but I was a little confused how this worked).

On the on-line licence renewal page (ie https://transact.nzta.govt.nz/transa...nce/entry.aspx ) then the only relicencing periods allowed are for 3, 6 and 12 months. It seems that it is only through the change date option (ie MR27) you can get 15 months.

[EDIT] Correction If your current licence expires after 30 June then while you cannot bring the date forward using the MR27 you can wait until late June and then use the form to extend your licence period 15months from that date - same effect.
OK so I am a bit thick as this is essentially explained above and I didn't get it but in case one other person also didn't get it ...
Thanks to http://www.special-solutions.net/bik...lub_stuff.html that put me right.
I have just found out that they have removed the word gullible from the dictionary
