See your point, but not sure if i agree
increase is approx $150 approx 100,000 bikers thats 15 million dollars there potentially missing out on (yes i know its not that much in reality)

unless its been coded by dickheads its a few lines of code to change
second thoughts why am I attempting to encourage this, hope you are right

I'd say it'd be more of a time vs hassel thing.

I work in the IT industry and it takes a freaking age to get any new coding changes out to production. This is multiplied tenfold if the system is a large one spread over many locations.

Will be interesting to keep an eye on though.

went into AA today and they said that you can put 12 months rego on bike if your date is after 1 of july but only if it is under 3months left on your rego and the date strts from your original date.

So where your current licence falls before 1 July, then it looks a great idea to use the MR27 to reset the date to just before 1 July and then when that is due to expire to reset the date again to 15months forward from then. It would seem that if your current license falls after 30 June then there is not much you can do - at least not by changing the date forward. (sorry if this repeats the above but I was a little confused how this worked).

On the on-line licence renewal page (ie https://transact.nzta.govt.nz/transa...nce/entry.aspx ) then the only relicencing periods allowed are for 3, 6 and 12 months. It seems that it is only through the change date option (ie MR27) you can get 15 months.

    True

[EDIT] Correction If your current licence expires after 30 June then while you cannot bring the date forward using the MR27 you can wait until late June and then use the form to extend your licence period 15months from that date - same effect.
OK so I am a bit thick as this is essentially explained above and I didn't get it but in case one other person also didn't get it ...
Thanks to http://www.special-solutions.net/bik...lub_stuff.html that put me right.
Well, whatever the form says, my expiry was 27 July. I saw that it said "
"The new licence expiry date cannot be prior to the current licence expiry date or more than 15 months from the date of application"

but I still managed to change my expiry date to the current date, a few days ago in Jan, to 15 months out, April 2011. I got a partial refund for the period now till mid-July, and paid for 15mnths at the CURRENT rate. And I plan on trying the same thing again in late June.

I've tried to get my head around it all by re-reading the thread, but my rego expires on the 22/1/10,

Will I be able to get a 5 month rego? Or is it only 3,6,12,15 month periods?

From what I understand, you can use the standard relisensing form and get up to 12 months relisensing period (not 15 months) BUT with the MR27 you could for instance
    1) reset your license due date to say 20 June 2010
    2) then on or around 20 June use another MR27 form to set your lisense date out 15 months ie to about September 2011.

All of this should be at the current lisensing rate nad none at the new "enhanced" rate provided the powers that be don't change the rules.
I have just found out that they have removed the word gullible from the dictionary

    Mine expires 23rd Feb

So I could chuck 3 months on it to take it to 23rd of May then chuck on 15 more after that?

Just out of interest, how much would that really be saving? 12 months for my 250 is $321.24 (doesn't have a 15 month option online for checking purposes).

How much will that go up to after the 1st July?
