Tyres for a Hyosung GT250R
Hi everyone. My rear tyre on my Hyosung GT250R is nearly toast and wont get a new warrant.
The trye was a Shinko 150/70-H17 Do I need to get that exact size or am I able to get a 150/20/17 or other (lower profile) tyre without it mucking up the handling and safety of the bike?
Any recommendations? Its mainly used for blats around wellington and the odd trip to Hawkes Bay and maybe the Rumatuku hills now and then.
Oh and have already replaced the front tyre with a Conti.

I have a GT650R as well as a GT250R, and the wheels off the 650 go straight on the 250 and it rides really well (well the front does at least.) After more than just a glance and a quick measure, I'd say the rims were identical.
I'd say you were perfectly ok putting GT650R spec tyres on it. They are a lot lower profile. Dunno what this will net you overall though, unless you went to some sticky modern-technology like a Michelin.

Fair weather rider
A common choice is the Battlax BT-45. Pretty good. You can mess with the sizing a little; a common replacement (overseas) is getting a 160/60 which leaves you with similar speed/revs as stock. Remember with a lower proile (without widening the tyre size) you will be at higher revs for any given speeds.

Yeah had some battlax once before on my GSXR400 and thought they were good value and resonably sticky. Might go for one of them again on the rear as they seem to last a while as well.

A 150 on an asthmatic 250 ! Crikey. Older rgv's came with 140's lol and they had nearly 60hp..

hey dude, I'd look for stickier not wider. Shouldn't be difficult since the OEM shinko is diamond hard.
I had a GT250R and changed tyres to Pilot Road 2 120/60 160/60. Wouldn't do it again (size not type).
rear was slightly folded over (last 10mm was almost vertical) and the tyre came very close to the chain and chain guard. Same with the front but not as bad. 110/70 150/70 is lots of tyre for that bike.
I don't think the GT250R and GT650R rims are the same. They look the same but the 650 rims are 1/2" wider... i think. Might have to look that one up.

Nah the stinkos are fine for leaners. They are slippery as a licked tit in the wet, but thats not a bad thing for newbies, who are better served to learn what not to do, rather than having $600 tyres that make them feel invincible.
