    Lotus Engine Simulation Software

    I'll put this here,it's for a single cyl,and no way would a sports bike rider be seen on a single.

    I've been playing around with it for a few days,I have my XT motor apart,so can just measure and fill in the data.This stuff is totaly beyond me,it may take me weeks to figure one small thing out....I don't even know what it does yet,but it looks like something I really need to be into...

    Lotus Engine Simulation Software go to freeware to download the single cyl simulation.So ok you smart dudes tell me how I can get it to do something other than work out my basic data.

    I've been readin thru some of the documentation. Sounds like it was written by an engineer. They have used complicated terms to describe what really is simple terms.

    Who can figure out what this is talking about for example.
    The periodic charging and discharging of the cylinders, together with the pressure increase generated during the combustion process, gives rise to highly unsteady flow in the manifolds of reciprocating engines. In a four-stroke engine, at the beginning of the induction process, the downward motion of the piston creates a reduction in cylinder pressure which gives rise to the propagation of a rarefaction wave into the intake runner pipe. This is manifested in the low pressure region between the IVO line
    and the black line in Figure 3.12. . The reflection of this wave at the end of the inlet runner pipe creates a pressure wave which, if it arrives back at the inlet valve in the period between bottom-dead centre and the point of inlet valve closure (as in Figure 3.12), can augment the trapped mass of air in the cylinder. By managing this mechanism the major features of the engine torque characteristic can be manipulated.
    This is car terminology - for bikes its talking about inlet attenuation (airbox tuning in broader terms). Two strokers will be familiar with doing this to the zorsts.

    Cool.
    I've got a bastardized XR250z engine loaded up into it now (guessing most parameters) and it's doing a run.
    It's got 4 hours left to go now

    Man, just load it up with a few valves/ports/manifolds/headers/exhaust/muffler and watch the simulation time go through the roof - Without the headers etc and only one valve it took 30s or so.

    This is fun

    Poor old 766 MHz machine....

    Not that I can implement any of this dammit

    I just followed the demo in the start of the manual to get the basics.

    Well, I can, actually, even though I'm not an engineer.
    Mind you, I've read this exact same thing expressed elsewhere in other terms, so I understood it already. However, this explanation is more concise than previous ones (and more concise too than a lot of the waffle I write...)
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.


    Or maybe not...

    waffle= its downloading In a single 4 stroke engine the inlet valve is open for about a quarter of the cycle. The other 3/4s of the cycle the inlet valve is closed and there is a tendecy for the air-fuel mixture to stop moving and to separate. Cyclone engines have anti-reversion cones in the intake manifold to stimulate movment of the mixture in those times when the intake valve is closed. When it finishes downloading Ill read it but I think the easy to understand version aint free

    Thank goodness I'm married. You meant single cyl engine. That counts me and my FXR150 out.
    Will check out the software later. Sounds really interesting.
