As he said
hang on.. every time you downshift you have to take you foot of the gear lever
then tap the gear lever again...
is this the problem?...

I'll have to look at my technique closely, this could be the issue, coz I just start stomping away on it, possibly without letting the gear lever all the way up, thinking its going down the gears.
Then I go to take off, and im in 3rd.
I think I used to have the same thing on an old suzuki 125, 15 yrs ago, ahhh those were the days, when the little bike wouldn't set off traffic lights etc...I had to wait for a car to come!
And one time the barrier arm at dauckland downtown carpark came down on my head. Lucky I had my helmet on.

usually happens just as large truck pulls up behind & lights turn green.
let clutch out till it bites-pull clutch in & push down works for me.
have been known to take off in 2nd, no prob if on flat.
