Advice needed with steering head bearings

Got the triple clamps out & checked the steering head bearings. Haven't been done since new - 18K.
There was more grease on the bearings than I expected so that was good. The top race & bearing are excellent. The bottom bearing has discoloured rollers & on the race there is alternating shading shiny shading shiny around it. The bearing rolls smoothly & effortlessly however was wondering if this was normal apperance.

At this stage I'm not planning on replacing the race or bearing but would be keen to hear some feedback. Searched the web but couldn't find any info.

If the bearing rolls smoothly and doesn't feel notchy then dont worry about the colour. Once its back together you wont see it anyway.

    Ps - yes it's normal.......
Remember there is more load on the lower bearing too.

sounds about the same as mine - which I checked at a similar mileage. I just cleaned and greased it all and its been fine for the last 3000k or so. I'm intending to replace the bottom bearing at around 30k just as a maintenance item.

Cheers guys thats what I thought. Those seals are very good at their job.

Nordie that was nowhere near your high standards. I think you need another coffee to get your game back on. BTW will drop off the cash I owe ya & the PS2 games this weekend.

OOh , that reminds me Nordie, I got your roll chart thing here and will drop it off during the week. Gave it a thorough workout and it performed admirably, and the small size is spot on. Cheers
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
