Going for my restricted - U turn question

Probably a stupid question but I'm asking anyway...

When the instructor gives you the word to do a U turn do they expect you to pull up to the left and come to a complete stop then start the turn or do you do it from a rolling start?

During normal day to day riding I just base what to do on the surroundings at the time. Just wondering if they expect you to do it a certain way. For the test I would probably pull up to a stop near the curb then start the turn (obviously after indicating, mirror, head check etc).

I had to do the "cul-de-sac" thing on my restricted and only the road U-turn for my full. U-turn, pull into left curb, head check, look back over your shoulder to execute the u turn (and avoid putting foot down at all, although he didn't seem to notice my 'toe-in-the-water' touch...)

So I guess it depends on where I'm asked to do the turn, cul-de-sac or a normal "straight through" road.

    Cheers all.

The road I did my u turn in was bloody narrow, I rocked the bike a bit to get a bit of turn on the front wheel, that helped.

Yeah, I'm worried about that a little bit, I can do a U turn in about the width of 2.5 car park's. (Been practising in the work car park).

All the best with that... U-turns are probably my worst bike skill. I should be practicing them a whole lot more, but have noticed recently that when I've gone to do a u-turn I'm turning in a tighter circle than I thought I would, so I guess that's good. BTW, I pulled to the curb, did all the checks and proceeded. I too had to do a u-turn on the narrowest of streets and was freakin crapping myself! But I managed it with one dab of the foot

Simple. Ask him / clarify before you do start the test. It will show you are attentive.

I don't think I even considered it, but stopped and did the full indicate, head check etc... thing. Stopping means you have to demonstrate more but also gives you time to check.

    Good luck.

    Hey Goonr

You're a good rider mate. I'd wish you good luck but you don't need it. Still it can't hurt so...

    Good luck anyway.

    Chasio

PS On my 6R at North Cross I didn't even get asked to do a U-turn so I did one in the car park when I parked up, just in case!

Cheers mate, I have a tendency to over think things so here I am.. over thinking again.

I'm booked in at Quay Street, I know of two people that have done their 6R there, one did the U turn on a straight through road the other at the end of a cul-de-sac. Guess I will just find out which one I get on the day.

Please let us know how it goes. I have my restricted test next week, North Shore. I hadn't even thought about U-Turns so thanks for flagging it. I'll be a little better prepared now
