Bloody oath aye!
Genie... a lot of riders boast about there suposid lack of chicken stripes... but the reason they have none is due to the fact thay cant ride for shit.
You can have chicken stripes and ride fast, its about body position... some lean the bike well over to a dangerous angle yet sit up right on the bike, ok no stripes but they are about to can out.
Others that have a little chook stripe ride fast and corner quick.. because they keep the bike at a safe lean angle and use their body to corner, leaves a much safer margine for a cock up.
Chicken stripes... over rated.
cheers DD

Gaaaaah so you were one of the bikes heading past when I was at work, sux to work opposite one of the main gas stations in town, but good for perving at bikes. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks the main st in Mot is the pits.
Next time your in Marahau try the fat tui for coffee or a burger, pretty good stuff
oooh, sorry to read that. Must be hell to watch the bastards off to play while you work. In my case I have so earnt this time.
Hehe, next time I'm in Marahau, well I know it won't be another 10 or so years......but there is so many undiscovered roads and I must discover them.
I worked out this morning that I'm averaging 416k's a week on my bike, unbelievable, think I am making up for so much lost time.
Agreed!. Was just something else to learn what's what in terminology as such. I got quarter inch round mine and i manage to get round corners pretty fine.
Just for the record...if anyone is coming into the Nelson region....Genie is the perfect host and great tour guide. Recomended!
She finished the day whipping round corners pretty damn good herself to be fair.
Well it's been an interesting week. Yesterday the wee beast made it to 3000. Was a momentous occassion for which I pulled over and snapped a pic. Felt like my baby had just learnt to crawl. It's the mother in me.
Got myself, well the bike, sorted for it's first lube. I'd asked a friend to pop over and assist and being the impatient and can-do-it myself bitch that I am (don't need anyone)...I did it. Don't need 2 people at all. Just sprayed stuff on, moved bike forward, sprayed more, moved forward and continued until chain was lubed but not over lubed. Just nicely coated, and, they make the stuff smell so nice.
Today when the beast had a bath I could smell the juicey aroma of chain lube. I'm addicted - again. Even more to love about my bike. Must go clock up another 500k's just so I can do it again.
Took myself out earlier today, didn't stay out long. The wind was whippy fiercely around my body and I decided me and the bike just don't weigh enough to combat that strength of wind. Was moving a bit over the road, the gusts were rather strong and I'm rather weak. I don't have the experience to carry off riding in a hurricane. (exaggeration) Will save myself and my skin, and my bike for a less windy day.
Today I rode my bike.
You can take your bike out on the road and go for a ride..but does on always "ride" their bike. I think not. There's a definite difference.
Today I rode and today I got pinged. There is a moment when I ride that I all of a sudden find myself breathing. It's a moment when my perspective changes...a moment I like. I went past that today.
Popped upon my bike this morning and decided I would put some petrol in the tank. I like to put petrol in the tank, the smell....ahhhhh, once was a Petrol Pump Attentant, best job. breathing again.
Seeing as my tank was 3/4 full I needed to travel some distance. To go further afield than before. I would pop up to Murchison. Bloody hell, talk about some shit drivers and a couple of clever clogs's on a little red duc's, swift movements.
Anyway, had a lovely meandering afternoon where my brain remained sharpe and my body got really comfortable. Like I've been comfortable before, but this went further than that. I "rode" my bike......amazing!!! Seriously, I went further in my ability, like when a child starts running, being free....
Amazing ride home after filling the tank, I was rather swift myself. I so got "into" the corners....hmmmmm,
Home now, and, well, just as I pull into my driveway Mr Policeman who is parked in Bus Stop, blips his lights and siren, I glide down my driveway, turn around and there he is beside me. Hmmmm, ooops.
Yep, I had accellerated down the last wee bit of road i had to play on, my bike was naughty, the last bit of freedom.......... and now I have a $170.00 fine!!!
bad luck Genie.............i too have been pulled over 20 metres from my driveway a number of years ago ...........they wanted to give me 50 points and a $510 fine...............i fought it.......long story short they fucked up the proceedure on the day and i got off............phew

Glad to hear you had such and awesome ride (excluding the end)!!!
Most accidents/incidents happen within 10 km's of home. Brain is on "home" things ... Untill you have both feet on the ground (off the bike) at home, keep the concentration. It is hard sometimes ... things you have to do and all that. But you will live longer ...
When life throws you a curve ... Lean into it ...
It's actually within Three K's of home and the accidents are the worst ones, mainly because as FJ said the drivers are well and truely in HOME Mode.
Take care out there Genie, it's good to hear you are doing well, as for mr Plod, well the bugger could have given you a warning, but that is another story.
Just keep your wits about you at all times and remember to keep in ride mode until you GET Home, that means keeping a wary eye out for nasty ol mr Plods too now.
Every day above ground is a good day!:
OH it was like my last little burst of freedom before coming home, not something I normally do and I was rather fortunate, no 'L' plate = $100.00 and exceeding the conditions of my licence $???, was rather amusing. He was parked straight across the road from my house and as I came around the corner he blipped me, he had just sorted a car crash that happened and after he gave me my ticket he got another two drivers. Good day for him.
About to cruise out for a small ride this morning, got to fit them in where I can, think I might go to the top of the Takaka Hill, awesome day to be on top of the world.
I am jealous ... Warbirds over Wanaka this weekend ... the whole of Central is bumper to bumper camper vans ... even worse than usual ...
When life throws you a curve ... Lean into it ...
Oh I can imagine, super busy weekend down your part of the country. We have the National VW convention going on. they look so cool and there a so many of them!!! Camper vans galore - Combi's in fact!
Doesn't sound like you're out for a ride today then.
Oh yeah, I stuck behind a an old diesel bus the other day, that was horrible, everytime he put his foot down I got lost in this cloud of black, I just had to overtake that one!!!!
