I'm a bit concerned about the tyre wear on my bike,I can't just keep throwing tyres at it like I used to in the old days....money is tight.I used my Xmas bonus to get a Spitfire for the rear,the Battleaxe only lasted 5,000km...I was hoping for more.The Spitfire is dual compound,so should last longer.

My other wheels with the K70's are more of a worry - the rear tyre is almost done after not much more than 2,000km,they are not that expensive compared to other road tyres,but going through them at that rate they will cost more. So today I swapped the tyres front to rear - I do it nearly everyday on cars,so why not a bike? I should be able to get another year out of them now,if I don't use them on boring sealed roads too much....that's what the other wheels are for.

One good thing about the K70's is that they are so easy to fit,and I can break the bead with my crocks.I have to get the bead broken on the tubeless tyres at the tyre shop.So removed and fitted 3 tyres today...easy job on the R65.

Any cunning plan is a good one. 2000km seems bugger all though. Too much power?

Too much power isn't a concern with an R65....but soft tyres,low pressures and too much hand and foot action are the cause.

Not good..IMO. As with a car, best tread tire always to the front....I consder the front to be way more important than the rear, so much more of your braking and there fore safety, is with the front tire. I will alway let the rear wear more than the front and always change the front before it is due.

Also I tend to think this is false economy, the new rear will wear as fast as the one removed, so instead of buying one new tire now ou will buy 2 at the same time later....

Wrong - strong recomendation from all tyre manufacturers,car makers and NZTA is best tyres on the rear,no matter what wheels are driven.Yes,I will need two tyres next time,in the long run it's the same amount of tyres any way.And next time I get to do another experiment with both tyres again...with my set up I don't really want to run different tyres front and rear.

For front wheel drive yes,best on the rear for rear wheel drive.I rotate best to the front on FWD and best to rear on RWD on servicing to even out wear rates.If you just keep putting new tyres on the front of FWD you will end up with really old cracked and hard rear tyres with cupping that makes them howl.Makes it hard to fail on a WoF if they have 5mm of tread but are so old they are dangerous....customers can't understand why I should fail a perfectly good tyre.

On front wheel drive cars the front ryre wears at 3 x the rate of the rear.

So long as you have 1.5mm on the rear, put the new one on the front.

If you know you are wearing heavily on the rear, then always change that one
