NSR250

Hey guys
Looking at getting another 250cc bike, one bike I would like to know about are the nsr250.
I've heard it cost heaps to maintain it as they require alot of rebuilds, also I've heard they are quite bad for commuting which I need to do alot of for uni.
The guy at Mt Eden motorcylces said if you get a good one, like the late model mc28 you could probably go without rebuilds.

They don't look bad... I don't have any experiance with them so I can't help ya other than with this.

They are a GP Bike doubt it would be any good for the road you need to do piston rebuilds every 15 000 ks

Don't buy it Suney...

Maintenance will be expensive and they are pretty useless in traffic.

Don't take my word for it. Test ride one around the city and see for yourself.

I don't think so. That is exactly what I did today. And why not?? If I do see something I like and they do me a good deal I may buy from them.

Your intention here is to go and see if the NSR is the bike for you...... not cheat anybody.

And by the way...... Red Baron will probably be glad that you are riding one of their bikes...... as it will do the battery good...... the ZXR was a joke today.

A NSR would be absolutely pants for riding to uni.

It would probably be the same as my rs250 which i wouldn't use to commute. They take to long to get up to temp and will bog down in traffic

No good in traffic...too long to warm up...rant rant, rave rave.
I may sound argumentitive, but who cares, treated right, and serviced well, rebuilds are not that expensive.
They go like hell, corner on rails, and stop on a dime. All ingredients for a great bike.
To solve the bog down factor, keep the revs around five all the time, reduces carbon build up in the pipes too! If you want one, can afford one, and like riding it, GO HARD

And remeber at low speed you dont see as much torque so not as much fun as a 4stroker when filtering..

Was a proper rice rocket that actually came close to killing me twice.
If your wanting a commuting bike then a high preformance 2 stroke would not be the good option. These bikes are made to have their neck rung out, but when they do, they need regular rebuilds wheich are quite expensive and I only had to pay for the parts! At the end of the day I think you need to look at what you need the bike for and look more at what is suitable. My NSR was a great bike, but it was my 2nd bike, I had another Honda 4 cylinder road bike also for general use. The NSR was my favourite snot bike and thats all it was there for, taking out on weekends to give it total crap

Mike or Chris at Mt Eden may let you test ride the nsr there. I had a ride of it a while ago, told them I would like to get a 2 stroke one day and that I had no intention of buying one any time soon but they didn't seem too worried. After some fishing around for the keys I was ring-a-ding-dinging up the road
But be warned, after riding one you WILL want to buy it. They are fecking fun but get stuck in traffic and you'll very quickly learn howmuch of a bitch they are too ride around town.

250 strokers are like MX bikes. Great performance, little bitchy when the going gets tight, but neat machines. Knackered after 3 years mind.

So a 15 year old 250 can really only be considered a hobby bike. The final nail in the coffin is the immanent introduction of Ethanol into our petrol. This will kill the last of the 2 strokes. Boo.
