    And the cause is...

My wife comes home yesterday and tells me a motorcyclist has just crashed at the intersection of East Coast Rd and Browns Bay Rd.

She looks daggers at me. Anti-bike daggers. Not long ago I went and bought a bike without her knowing (in the knowledge it would be a firm "no" if I asked her). Just to top things off I also bought two basket case Honda SLs as a "do-up" project for my sons and I. We're having fun with them.

The daggers are meant to mean that the crash proves bikes are dangerous blah blah blah.

In my mind I wondered what the cause was. Bike going way too fast? Car driver not noticing the bike was there? Someone going through a red light?

Today I went through the intersection and there is clear evidence of a large oil spill, the kind a truck makes when the driver doesn't put the diesel tank cap back on. On the next right hand corner, same thing.

I wonder if the two things are related? I made sure my wife knew about the oil spill. Sure, the bike might have crashed, but I had to let her know there was a good chance some other road user had done something that caused the crash.

LOL. U bought a bike knowing that if you'd asked your missus about it she'd have said no? High five

'Tis always easier to beg forgiveness than to ask permission.

It's really up to the rider to be aware enough of potential hazards and to ride wisely enough to avoid them. I doubt saying "It was the cager's fault!" whilst in the hospital bed will change Mrs's mind...

Tell her the cause of the crash was because the poor motorcyclist was so distraught and frustrated that his wife was looking at him with her anti-bike dagger eyes and wasn't putting out because he had purchased a motorcycle without her consent!

That farken East Coast Road is a farken shocker ..... I don't think I have ever been on that stretch of road without seeing those pretty rainbows all over it!!!

Nah I don't have to ask permission but she would normally expect to be consulted when I spend thousands of dollars of our money. She was pissed about that aspect of it, but she's getting used to the idea of me having a bike again.

How exactly is this supposed to reassure her?

Wife: "You'll get yourself and our sons killed."
You: "Maybe, but it will probably be someone else's fault."

    Yeah, that'll work.

Would the diesel spill have made a car crash?

She'll get over it. Chix just have to have a wee rant/glare now and then. When you stop and think about it, so do you.

Which bike was it? I'm hoping it wasn't the TDM? What year is it? I'd like to catch up sometime and do a comparison between my 1995 TRX850.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

    Wink How too

Haven't you offered to take her for a ride, works wonders. Mine comes out once a month on a Sunday, the rest of the month is mine, no problems.
