    Has anyone ridden Tiniroto Road?

Some mates and I are off on a road trip in the next few weeks and we have noticed Tiniroto Road on Google maps between Gisborne and Wairoa. Has anyone ridden this road recently and can you tell me what it's like, i.e. sealed or unsealed, suitable for road bikes, windy, undulating etc etc.

    Cheers
Why would anyone choose to drive a car!

Went from the Gisborne end towards Wairoa in October 2009.

The road was sealed all the way, there was a small amount of roadwork by Tiniroto but not a problem getting past.

Very twisty, up and down, round and about, especially the southern half.

I actually enjoyed this road better than the State Highway.

The pillon (my wife) says it was prettier.

I can't be of a huge help as I've only ever driven it.... and it was a while ago, however from what I remember it was sealed and definitely suitable for road bikes. It's fairly windy (as in corners) in places, but nothing too bad, in fact it would probably be a fairly fun road to ride. I would just caution that it is not the main route so there will probably be wandering stock, tractors, unmarked gravel/pot holes etc and if I remember right some one way bridges. But still nothing too bad..... go for it!

I have done the Tinoroto Road. Its real heartland NZ, good road surface, beef stock will be wandering in the slow bits. Bugger all traffic.
Its important to stop at the small tavern about 10 km before Fraser Town. Perry and Julie run this classic boozer.

Never mind the beef stock; watch out for jigaboos.

Did this at the end of Nov 09', road was in great condition, some P gravel where they had been doing some roadworks @1/2 through should be all gone by now ... I prefer this route rather than following the coast line & prefer to come from the Gisbourne end down to Wairoa

Hi Hami - great stuff! We've got a couple of people that haven't done the GC before so we want to give them several decent rides. I also need to check our how (un) comfortable the Striple seat is on a long haul!

What a great way to " Break them & YOU " in the east coast roads where in tip top condition when I went through in Nov, Up the west coast to Te araroa was windy as hell but windless down the east side, rest break in Tolaga bay is a must !!!

My Rider seat is still going great after a couple of years of intense abuse I would recommend one for your trump

Actually, that sounds like most "main routes" in NZ.

Did this and the east cape just after new year, all the roads are in pretty good nick, the Tiniroto rd is a blast much better than the main highway
