Harley XR1200. Any good?

I always leave the burt munro about 9.30 -10.00 am on the sunday and straight back to the ferry 980kms in one hit just stopping for fuel and one stop for food piece of piss on my xr or maybe I just like pain and in 15mths I have just clicked over 26k and all good.Marty the part number for the forks is 48771-10 l/h and 48778-10 r'h retail $1219.00 retail ea but the boys at wgtn mc said there might be a bit of a discount if your interested.

It's a quirky beast for sure, quite hard to categorize what it is and what it does well, for me it's no where near as useful as an all rounder, it doesn't have the presence or bling of a cruiser and it's certainly not a sportbike in the class of an R6 or gsxr. We've already established it aint got no long distance inclinations unless you're into pain, so why have one?

Because..It's a bit different, it's got loads of character, it's a Harley that spits in the face of what we've come to expect from Harley, it's fast, it's a bit wild, it handles well. it does bends brilliantly, it looks good, it brakes really well but most of all it's just a real buzz just to get on and have a blast.

After spending a bit of time on Sunday, checking out your XR Mart, I'd have to say, very cool ride (and no, it wasn't just because the sun was beating done on my scone and I was all delirious either).

Can't wait to see it once you've tickled the bodywork.

Quite honestly, I've never been a real HD fan, but that XR is the rizzle shizzle.

If it lost a little weight, better suspension, more power, sounds like what you really need is a Buell

After all my deliberating and dithering on the body work, I got home and put all the Tangerine bits back on and I think it looks much better like that so, back to plan A, a three piece set of white carbon fibre body work as shown on flicker "wont upload' and bish bash bosh, two bikes in one for the undecided types of peeps (Me). Great rideout by the way, didn't we do well with the weather.

Sounds like your onto it. In the cold light of day, with a clear head, the thinking man's choice would be a Buell, bettering the Harley in nearly everything except maybe the looks department . Then again there are many bikes out there technically better than the Buell, so there's more at play here than what stacks up best on the specs sheet. The Head says a gixer 750 is everything I could want in a (go for a quick blat) bike but the heart and the smile all say XR1200.

There is room for improvement in most bikes and the XR is no exception but just because I'd like to see a few changes made over the model years doesn't mean I think I've bought a bike that is inferior to it's competitors because the reality is a bike is as good as it makes you feel and using that criteria, right now, the Xr1200 is the best bike in the world for me.

In any event, the Buell remains a hot contender for the touring bike I'm searching for at the moment, so I may yet get both

Took one for a wee blast and was very impressed. Competent handling. Very grunty. Quite busy at 110 kph though. Would have considered one until I rode an MT01 today. Now this bike is the full package. All the mechanical drama and noise but with great manners and feel. Felt lighter and smaller than the Harley. I really want one!

yea they are low geared,I changed my fr pulley to a 30t from a 28t and dropped the revs by 400,wouldn't mind having a ride on an mt01

I took one out for the day yesterday and I was really impressed! Good power, handled well sounded good and my miss's was comfy on the back.

If I owned one id put some straighter bars on, better brakes and a quick turn throttle
