I have really hated sheep for many years, also stemming from time looking after them. I have no cruciate ligament in my left knee thanks to the woolie critters! Sheep taste yummy!

And there you hit the nail on the head J2. Randomness! That is what that was! From your retelling of it you stood no chance. At least you have a recollection of the detail of what happened. I have another friend on here that does not remember, all he knows is a sheep attempted to kill him too! That could happen to any one of us. Please dont stir your brain up thinking too hard for the now eh? Bangs on heads take some time to settle. You need to listen to soothing pan pipe music

Promise me that you will rest your brain for as long as it takes for your ribs to stop hurting. When you can cough hard without pain then you can start thinking properly again.

In her eyes, the pretence that "My husband is different , it won't happen to him" is no longer tenable. So if he were to go out again on a bike she would be terrified. A condition which Mr Deuce does not feel he can impose upon her.
Comprehensibly explicated by the Greek gentleman. Its the same reason I won't buy another bike. Responsibility to others and the belief we only get so many chances in life. So I'm off to Somalia to bring peace and love to those misunderstood folk........

Jim - really sorry to hear the news. Take your own sweet time and get well at your own pace (says the man who still suffers from an injury that he rushed too much to get back from).
Heather - hope you are coping as well as can be expected and that family and friends are rallying round at this difficult time.
Best wishes to both of you,
    Bob

It is pleasing to note that dairy farming is replacing a large amount of sheep farming in NZ.
Maybe Fonterra need even more encouragement?

If anyone thinks to test that theory, my mate did so 3 weeks ago, north of Alfredton (they must breed suicidal sheep there). Hit it dead on side & sadly went flying with trip to hospital, concussion, & wrecked new to him bike.

The very dead sheep 'disappeared' in the time it took for the ambulance and Police getting there. One of the helpful locals on the farm quad was obviously the farmer & wanted the evidence gone while everyone was fussing over an ill looking gurgling bloke.

Really if I was the local Police I'd be publicising that there had been 2 potentially life threatening accidents involving wandering livestock & a warning that if any of these had been fatilities that would be treated as manslaughter through negligence.
Which is probably why I'm not in charge of the rural Police, or at least wouldn't be for long if I was. But may get people thinking maybe I should fix the dodgy fencing in that area.

When I'm in charge of the world - Then there will be changes!

Hi Jim, glad to hear you're on the mend. Shame about the Buell, they're irreplacable you know (Just like you).

Ramon & I had an awesome weekend up at Cape Reinga, and I couldn't help thinking about the trip to Cape Palliser we did not too long ago, along with the amount of enjoyment we had.

Hopefully this is a temporary set back, but no matter what you decide, I'm sure you'll get sorted.

take care my friend, heal well.

Jim I'm just happy that there is a grumpy drugged up sore bloke typing this rather than the possible alternative.

You'd rather hit a cow than a sheep?? Good luck.....

I'm from a farming background so I don't have the usual grumpiness about manure on the road or the odd wandering sheep. We are only able to live in this beautiful country because of farming. However it's damned serious when a bloke is nearly killed by a mouton. The law is as follows:

The Animals Law Reform Act 1989 sets out factors for determining whether an animal owner is negligent in allowing an animal to stray on to the road with regard to fencing. The relevant considerations under the legislation are:

    • the common practice in the area with regard to fencing and other measures taken to stop animals straying onto the road (such as cattle stops), and
    • any measures taken to warn users of that road of the likely presence of animals on the road.

There was a case in 2002(?) where a milk tanker hit a steer on the road. The farmer was held liable = $80,000 + interest and costs.

    Bugger!

I remember hearing or reading about this off in the media. It stated that the rider was from Lower Hutt and was on his maiden ride, I had a inkling it was you James.

Heal fast & well my friend.

I guess that there are more sheep loose (NOT lose, you kb fuckwits!) due to the size between the wires on the fencelines. Cattle would require a much larger gap to get through. (I hope!)

Maybe we see trust differently. I see trust as "I promise not to be reckless and show off". "I promise to minimise the risk of injury in an accident by wearing good gear".

If by offering my trust meant I was promising I would never crash, then that is a trust I could never sensibly offer anyway riding a motorcycle.

It took years to get Heather to trust that I was capable of both not getting tickets and not hurting myself and that trust is gone and I love her and the kids too much to put them through this for a long while at least. I already busted myself up once really good and this one has removed the joy, at least in the immediate instance. That Buell was a treasure too and I killed a last of line and I'm not feeling that great about that.
I completely understand, having had the same thing happen in 2008. Cant say the wife is keen on my riding with two little kids too.

I am in Wellington, so if you need anything, help, mow the lawn or help in some way, just pm me.
