Please slow down a bit guys!

I've had the misfortune of having to take four wheels to work of late and am missing the bike terribly in the Auckland commute! AS a biker, I am aware of upcoming bikes, always watching the mirrors and pulling aside to give splitters more room AS an aside, only one BMW rider so far has waved acknowledgment, thanks, mate!

Anyway, over the past week or so there have been a few guys splitting at high speed - by that I mean a big speed differential with the cars - racing through at a pace that would give them no chance of avoiding an accident if a car made a sudden lane change.

Particularly a white coloured cruiser that has been so quick I still cannot pick it's make though it could be an M50 or even VL250.

I wouldn't post normally about those who may split faster than me, heck I even got left behind by the Taka bike Cop! But you guys are just asking for trouble and contributing to the negative image of the biking community.

I don't see it like that.

It should be common knowledge that lane splitting is dangerous at all times, especially while doing so at a high speed.

Perhaps Edbear is hoping that whoever it is he saw going so fast while splitting reads these forums and perhaps will think twice about going so fast.

Good point. I don't think we realise just how hard we are to see sometimes and when you're hoofing through traffic even if the cage drivers are looking in their mirrors, one second you're not there the next you are...... then you come on KB and bitch about how some arsehole in a car ploughed into you or cut you off.

Very well put. We must remember that the majority of us are cage drivers too and passing cars on a bike is just what we do, however, Edbear and Trudes make good statements.

Who ever you are, be careful as the motorway is not the best place to ride like maniacs............ and cars are just as likely to change lanes without knowing you are approaching either

Having recently binned my bike, I am currently using a car. On the motorway this morning I was being carefull to keep left so there was a gap for motorcycles lane splitting. I could see maybe two car lengths back (mostly thanks to other cage drivers either driving in the middle or right hand side of their lane). So I couldn't really see motorcycles until they were almost upon me.

Imagine what it is like for a cage going at 20km/h that suddenly gets passed by someone doing 70km/h when the first thing they know of the motorbike is the roar of its engine next to their window.

It just something you get used to.
I have driven a cage on the AKL motorway for the last 17 years and non of this is new. you get all types of riders but you just get used to it. car drivers are the same
Don't sweat about it, or it will just make you have a grumpy day.
Some people ride/drive with manners and some are complete f***wits.

Your obvisouly are not familiar with Auckland motorways every morning and every evening. Today I had the car in first for most of my journey, and even then I had to engage the clutch and use the brake to slow down several times.

Lets just say there is quite a bit of traffic congestion.

Nope - but very familiar with the Gold Coast-Brisbane motorways

Your obvisouly are not familiar with Auckland motorways every morning and every evening. Today I had the car in first for most of my journey, and even then I had to engage the clutch and use the brake to slow down several times.

Lets just say there is quite a bit of traffic congestion.

I had my first lane splitting experience yesterday,was fairly relaxing and cages seem to allow room for me without any issues.
The only problem was getting past buses,cos they take up a large amount of the lane,but I put it in first,waited for a gap and then nailed it.
