DB's posts seem to come out of nowhere. It's like a bunch of guys talking calmly about their experiences, and then BAM, drunken hobo slams his jug on the table and tells everyone they need to start punching each other. Interesting tactic.

But rather than start punching each other... I'd make sure I was still insured if need be, then tell the test rider "Break it you bought it, show me your license, leave your gf and your other bike me, and see ya in 5."

The day DB is expelled from KB will be a god like day.

Dunno about other people, but if I go as far as to testride a bike I'm looking at, then I've pretty much brought it anyway, so if I crash it then i buy it, simple.....
As for the other way round, if I ever had a bike that I sold ...... the terms would be clear before the testride....

You guys must have very advanced skills. My initial worry is getting off the owners premises without an embarrassing incident... Only then can i start to be concerned with getting the bike back undamaged, sans brown trousers.

Oh! And I voted you bend it, you own it. That thought should induce a note of caution?

    Sometimes.

    Perhaps.

    Or not?

If you root one side, pick it up and drop it on the other (make sure fairings on both sides are fucked).

Take it back to the owner (if a wheel is missing, it doesn't matter) and make sure you limp, moan and groan.

Tell the owner if he doesn't give you the bike as compensation for an unsafe ride, you'll sue him.

This is a western world country right?

If you were trying to sell for $5k and someone crashes it, if they don't pay you the $5k and own it you have just lost the ability to get your $5k.

The paying for damage option is one of those "How long will it t ake to get the bike saleable again?" situations.

Paying for the damage just won't be enough!

Yeah, but one with enough common sense to all but outlaw sue'ing people. Easy enough to check whether the bike had a failure to 'cause such a drop or whether the rider got a bit excited.

What's a test ride? Doesn't everyone just look at photos on trademe and say 'yep I'll take it'?

My 2 c worth,I will contact MY insurance company to see what happens/needs to be done to protect ME in case MY bike is damaged during test ride.Having said that a bit of common sense is paramount,if the guy arrives in shorts and jandals no ride, with gear and am happy with his attitude and insurance is fine no worries, explain excess to him,and if no license NO ride, come back and test ride when full class 6 is shown, happy to follow in the car.
