    Beware drivers wearing hats...

There is a little piece of roadcraft advice that warns, "Beware of drivers wearing hats."

When you think about who wears hats when driving that actually isn't as silly as it might at first appear:
hoons with their baseball caps on back to front driving with their glands instead of their brains, geriatrics of both genders driving from memory (and the memory ain't what it was...),
    bowlers driving pissed or otherwise.

So today I was heading for home along SH3 when I quite suddenly came upon a Holden momentarily stuck behind a furniture van. One is cautious passing vanilla flavoured Holdens but the driver of this one was wearing a floppy hat as if going fishing, or possibly even living out a little Chris Vermeulen fantasy?

That looked OK so I passed, looking down as I did so to see what the driver was wearing.
    As you do.

I didn't like his light blue shirt very much at all, it clashed terribly with his red Holden so I proceeded with a degree of caution. As we approached the next speed restriction sign my radar detector registered a strong hit. Nothing in sight except the Holden. I hope he was impressed by the law abiding manner of my riding...

It would seem though that there might be another category of hat wearing driver to be wary of?

Good post! It used to be old farts wearing trilby hats in the UK who were usually at the head of a long queue going abysmally slowly. On the Coro Peninsula, you can bet your arse that whilst most slower vehicles pull over to let faster ones past; the one category that won't is the 4x4 towing a boat BUT only if the driver is wearing a baseball cap. Go figure that one out because I can't

Oh, and there's another tenuous correlation: Baseball-capped 4x4 owners usually have moustaches and drive in vests..... what's that all about?

Well when we've got the top down on the MX5 we do wear a cap. It is on top of my head and facing forwards, so that should be a good thing, right...?
You don't get to be an old dog without learning a few tricks.

    I resemble that remark!

At least I did till somebody nicked my trilby by way of a knife through the MX5 roof.

You should be like Edbear and me with our MX5's - baseball caps on FORWARD. Somone was doing the world a favour by nicking your trilby and destroying it
