Silly old men and their silly old bikes. Pukekohe Classic Festival

    What a spectacle !

Was there for my second meeting ever on Chris Starr's Norton Dominator. Parked up and camping by the entrance to the pits was a fantastic spot as we got a good look at all the bikes as they came in.

Noteworthy was Neville/Joanne Mickelson on the matchless chair doing a sweet burnout up pit lane..

Had a blast caning up the hill under full throttle and barreling into the very bumpy turn one at full speed. Managed a 1.22:32 after about a total of 18 laps. I count this as a victory for me considering my lack of time on the bike and some minor gremlins lurking in the Domy's methanol guzzling heart.

Watching the sidechair nutters getting sideways over the hill, the Moto paton, the briton, Ginger Malloy, Hugh Anderson on the yamaha, the 90 yr old rudges, the kitty hawk, the racing babes made it a fantastic weekend !

    I can't wait till next year !

Who was it riding the No 1 Manx Norton ? Program only said TBA , but whoever it was was VERY good - good enough that I wondered if Hugh Anderson might have sneaked out.

    That might explain it !

Just a wee pity that the machine was a bit down on power compared to No 4.

    Hampton Downs today

I was there watching my son race a beautiful ES2 Norton. The Nationals are going to be so flipping brilliant there! The side cars are going to be a crowd puller at the lefty downhill hairpin..they were awesome today!Awesome track!!!

Hampton Downs 1st motorcycle race meeting

The NZCRR held the first motorcyce race meeting today and it went off with no major offs and some very fast racing.
The classics get around the 2.8 kms very quickly and the Posties were going for it, as for the sidecars you have to see them to believe it.
Stroudy did 2 demos with the superbike, fastest lap, 66.61 seconds.

That was the best sidecar racing I've seen in years - it was so close and loose it was more like speedway sidecars. The best place to watch them was the tight hairpin - they were crossing up and coming out with huge understeer...and waving to the crowd they were having such a good time.We were waving back too.Next best place to watch them was the left hand up and over - flying chairwheels. They were also getting very light coming up the main straight - we could see the front wheels flapping as they tried to control drift.

I was so impressed with the track that I'm trying to talk myself out of getting out on it.

Good racing. Shame they didn't advertise it well as only a handful of spectators.
