Talking 7th Annual KB Gathering - Turangi - Queens Birthday Weekend 5-7 June 2010

Back due to popular demand! Same as we did in '07/'08 and '09/10 for the KB Gathering.

*However, we do have a change in accommodation this year, we will be based in Taupo (Details at bottom of post....)

    WHAT IS THE KB GATHERING?

KBers (Kiwibikers) from North (Auckland/Northland/Waikato), South (Wellington/Wairarapa/Manawatu/South Island), East (Bay of Plenty/Hawkes Bay) and West (Taranaki) converge together in Turangi (Southern end of Lake Taupo) and have a bloody good time over the three days (or four if you head down earlier).

    WHAT ARE WE DOING?
    Friday
Some of us will make our lesuirely way down on the Friday. This day is optional as the main part of the 'Gathering' is from the Saturday to Monday.

    Saturday
Regional groups ride to Turangi on Saturday (obviously you wouldn't ride direct, its a good chance to explore some roads on the way there), meet and greet Sat arvo over a beer or two. Settle in for the night. There are Hot pools accessable where are staying!

    Sunday
Go for a group ride or multiple group rides (depends on group numbers) Here are some suggestions, Taumuranui Saddle, Lake district - Desert Rd - Ohakune - Napier / Hastings - Forgotton Highway etc ... Please suggest ideas for rides in the thread, the actual ride will be decided on when we have all arrived at Turangi ...

Saturday / Sunday night could have a group BBQ or have a dinner at the resturant next door and drinkies etc.

    Monday
Say our goodbyes and head back home.

    WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
Saturday 5th June, Sunday the 6th June and Monday the 7th of June. After previous year's experience some of us will be making our way down on the Friday......

    WHERE ARE WE STAYING?

    Contact details:
    Oasis Campgrounds
    Tokaanu
    (07)386-8569
    oasismotelstokaanu@xtra.co.nz

They have motel units, cabin rooms and campsites. There is a Laundry and large drying room available, camp kitchen and dining room, TV and lounge. Restaurant / Dairy next door. Hot mineral pools are free for guests staying and are open 24hrs and they also have hot freshwater spa pools (free for staying guests) and are open from 2pm til late).

Check in is @ 2pm, check out is 10am.

COSTS (Guide only, please contact Oasis for current prices)

    MOTEL UNITS
Self-Contained Unit - $115 per night for two people, $135 for 3 and $20 for any extras
    Studio Unit - $75 for 1 person, $85 for 2

    CABIN ROOM
    Quite a few options available.
    $25 per person (twin share)
    $36 (single rate)

    CAMPSITE
    $17 per person
    $11 per child

Remember these prices include free access to HOT mineral / spa pools!

Why are we going there this year? Myself and Qkkid have stayed the night and was impressed by the location and facilities

    - Excellent resturant / dairy right next door
    - Motel or cabin? Its your choice and budget
    - Good BBQ area for mass cook-up
    - Cabins are well heated (YAY!) and cozy
    - Great bang for buck[/COLOR]

YOU will be responsible for your own bookings. I have enough stuff to do in a day let alone herd cats....

CAN I COME ALONG TO THIS GATHERING?
Do you ride a road bike? Are you capable of riding more than 1000kms in a 3-day weekend? Can you maintain open road speed? Then YES you can come. Wifes / handbrakes / pillions welcome.

I will waste my time putting up a calendar thread, please waste your time by adding your name to the list attending.

Same as years previously! This is not about major inter Island travel, it's about meeting a like minded (KBers) group to socialise in basic comfort & group ride in the vicinity within each persons comfort zone and budget.

Thanks for clearing THAT up Nadroj. This will be our 4th year running so it ain't news and some of us only just got back from a 5500km tour of the south! Would like to do it over Jan but Queens birthday just seems to fit with the majority.

Hmmm, got at least two bucket meets between now and them so as long as I dint break any other part of my body should be all good.

And besides it would be a shame to reck a perfectly good 100% record.

For the record Qkkid was in my bed, not the other way round
