Registering a bike for the first time

I am looking at buying a Yamaha XT225 - most of the ones I have seen on trademe are not yet registered to ride on the road. I have found one that looks good - is set up to ride on the road (has indicators etc). It is NZ new, has a frame number etc but has never been registered anywhere...it is a 2000 model

I have looked on the ltsa website and the cost listed for registering a 60cc plus motorcycle for the first time is $382 for 12 months (or something close) - it's only $80 more than 12 months licencing costs.

Is this right or are there other huge costs that I haven't considered? (other than things like road tyres and anything else needed to bring it up to road standard)

has anyone had any recent experience with this sort of thing?

    Many thanks

I think you'll need to get a compliance check from somewhere like VTNZ as well before you can get a WOF. I think it costs around $200.
