Haha. Registration is kinda like insurance.

It covers you against the risk of being pulled over and getting a fine.

Can I ask how much it cost? Also, did you shop around? Just wondering if it was the best price you were offered. I'm with John Baker and really happy with their service. Did you get a quote from them, just out of interest?

I'm with Protecta and have the roadside assist as well. Just renewed last month to a nice 50% no-claims bonus which dropped it to $725

You do realise that the AA were a good part of the reason behind why your rego went up so much don't ya?

Most bikers are boycotting AA due to their anti-biking stance. try kiwibike or go-lightly - you may be surprised what you are quoted (they charge about 5% of insured value on average).

I can't speak for cruza but I didn't choose AA. They just sub-contract out their roadside assistance progam to other insurance companies.

It doesn't matter what insurance company you are with, they can choose to contract out to AA at any time for the roadside assistance (or not)

5% of the insured value would be twice what I am paying now...........

....sssssso, I think I'm all good

$725 is about $100 better than my last premium. Got the Harley insured for $22,000 (fully comp) but no roadside cover. Can I ask what value they're covering up to for that premium? Thanks.

Yeah its not bad. Being realistic there's always going to be a gap between "insured" value and "market" value (they don't have an "agreed" value option AFAIK) but after talking with them about the mods and stuff I reckon I could walk out with around $25k from a write off.............

....assuming I could walk of course

The answer is possibly obvious, but if you've insured it for $28k+7k, but only expect to get $25k paid out, why pay the premium on $35k and not $25k? Or does it not work like that?

That sounds good too. Will certainly shop around a bit more next time. In fairness to John Baker though, they've been really good when I've had to claim (twice - neither my fault).

Yeah it takes a bit of working around but I follow the advice of my sister who works in the industry.

Basically, if you dont insure for "agreed" value, which is an agreed amount that wil be paid out, then you are stuck with market value for payouts. When setting the insured value it pays to over insure a smidge cos the difference in premium is usually minimal and if your insured value is lower than market value at the time of the claim they will pay out on the lower value. The mods are "noted" on the insurance and may or may not have an impact on the market value at the time of the claim.

    So Im insured for 28

    there's a note of $7k of mods

payout would be 28k or market value - whichever is the lesser

    make sense?

if I insure for 25k the premium drop would be bugger all (maybe $50) and it could cost me if the market value worked out in the final analysis to be closer to the $28k

Yup, makes sense, I thought you were paying a premium on 35k which seemed unusual if they weren't ever going to give that to you!
