Was just reading the news online and came accross this:
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/index.cfm?...ectID=10124561
Teenagers driving at 140km/hr, crashed the car etc. Fortunately no one suffered life-threateneing injuries. What really gets me though is the response from the powers that be:
"Northland MP John Carter said the incident raised the question of where people as young as those involved got their alcohol.
Accidents like this were partly the result of lowering the drinking age."
John mate, it's not just about where they got the alcohol from, but why young kids with little driving experience are allowed to jump in a cheap but powerful car and drive like maniacs? They shouldn't be allowed to. Kids (or anyone else for that matter) should have to drive 1000cc nana-cars till they've held a full licence for say 2 years with a clean track record - no crashes where you are a fault and no alcohol related fines etc. Violate those terms and you are in your nana car for another 6 to 12 monts sonny jim.
I know this has been discussed before but if we as motorcyclists are some-what restricted in speed and HP by the present MC licencing system then why shouldn't cars, which have greater potential for injury and death, also be restricted?
There are too many young dumb kids getting maimed or killed on our roads and I reckon we motorcyclists as a group should make this an election year issue.
Is anyone with me or am I totally off the track?
