    Question Lane splitting?

    Hey,

    Just a random question.

Is lane splitting legal in NZ?

Also, can bikes ride on the bus lanes on the motorway?

    thanks

do a search for 'filtering' and 'splitting', then come back if you can't find what you're after. This topic has been done a squillion times over, so there should be some meat to chew on..

    no problem.
this is the best piece I know of (and happens to be by me too.. hummmm..), and it's what I ride by. Have done for years, will do for years more

    Kewl thanks.

I ride up Onewa Rd every morning and split lanes until the merge just before the motorway, I've only ever seen one cop car and he did nothing, usualy in the mornings theres a queue of about 3-4 bikes splitting lanes, and one guys on a Suzuki 600 (I'm not switched on when it comes to Suzukis), rides up the centre line past the traffic, which I've done only once... And thats the same day I saw the cop car... and the cop didn't stop him from riding on the centre lane...

Thanks for all your help :P

no problem. Just don't go nuts and/or attract attention, cos then they might pick you up on it. If you're sensible about it, and not a danger, then you should be ok. If you're filtering slowly and someone catches up behind you, ignore them and stick to your guns. When you get the chance, calmly move aside and let them past. Chances are, if there's any cops ahead who are waiting for something, they'll pick 'em out for you!

just take it real easy and real slow, and you should be ok..
