One of the local twits down here that's been making a lot of noise about the ACC campaign almost fits into the same catagory:

posts plenty of bollocks of how much their doing towards the campaign yet regular as clockwork travels up & down a main bypass road on the southern outskirts of ChCh tailgating cars, no indication at one particular roundabout, trying to make his metal lump make as much noise as possible, and to cap it off the attire consists of a piss-bowl helmet, either fingerless or no gloves, a pair of beach shorts & some vest of some discription flapping around in the breeze like a half torn sail; the safest thing worn is a pair of slip-on work boots.
An accident waiting to happen and one day it will....... a perfect case of do as I say not as I do

A good reason to abolish ACC altogether and have free medical paid for out of Central government coffers like they do in Blighty methinks.

GEE dude get it right. It was My FJR1300. I was wearing correct gear and wasn't speeding. No I diddn't see the car till committed to going on the bridge. so yes I made a mistake. If you can't tell the difference I feel sorry for you.

I do like your ballanced approach to the issue, its quite right

No more of a "mistake" than some doofus riding on one wheel.
The only difference being he fell off and you werent squashed by a car. Could of easily been around th other way

"I didnt see the car" is an even more pathetic excuse than "I didnt see the bike"

Not having a go at you pal, you are big enough to admit your scewup, but this does show that "not seeing" can happen to anyone who isnt looking.

Nahh it was a dumber mistake than that to be totally honest. Where it happened and how it happened meant you genuinely can't see oncomeing cars.(-unless you have xray vision) Trucks you can and 4x4's, but not cars. UNLESS you slow and pull left -or even just pull left for a looksee. --Its just the nature of the bridge and bridge aproach -worse at a certain time of the evening My mistake was that I knew that was the case and committed to riding onto the bridge anyways. It was a bad call.
Isn't it though the very reason we wear decent gear ?I've never met a rider that hasn't made a mistake. What a rider has done before doing so,the training they've had,the gear they wear pays off in that moment. An accident becomes an incident.
Not intending to sound egotistical (sorry if It does) but the case in point being what happened to me. -I made a mistake -I was on a one lane bridge with a car (I unquestionably had stuffed it up) I made a decision and found the only possible escape route. Without a moments hesitation I can say that without the rider training I've been lucky enough to have had the outcome would have been different.
In the case of the person in the OP he was really loading the dice against himself. No real riding gear, deliberate decision to wheelie, insufficient training on how to do a wheelie properly etc
Without even goiung into the whole-why was a non road legal bike on the road anyways.

Heres a thought, When these Oxegen Theves are caught riding their Un-regitered Unwaranted Mud Chuckers on the Road / Street, they should be fined a Years Registration, for CC rating respective, payable to ACC, even if their getting caught is because they splattered themselves over the Black Top.

Seeing this type of rider is 'nuff to make you cringe

I've got to confess I've done the same thing tho'. In fact the worst damage I ever did to myself was falling off a ct90 on gravel in my own driveway. Was wearing jeans, sneakers and a sleeveless top at the time. Certainly taught me a thing or two.
May be that the off did the rider a good turn by causing maximum pain with minimum damage to himself or to others

Saw a guy on a little bike today.. Couldnt tell you what kind it was.. But it was a Honda. Had a front setup similar to this push bike from the pedals forward..

But it was Moterised.. Heading south from Waikanae.. Only a helmet. No gloves. Shorts and a jumper. Oh, Cant forget the shoes. He had them on.. But it was moving bout 60/70 k's and it definately wasnt a younger person. Going on the clothes and the tone of the skin, I'd say he was in his late 30's, Early 40's..

Back end looked Similar to this one.. http://image.ec21.com/image/honda/oi...ailand_%29.jpg

    Probably a stolen bike too

I renewed my licence yesterday - cost 321 and 255 of that was ACC. Feel sorry for all those who get the new rego cost, for me it'll be a year away ....does anyone know when exactly it comes into force?

I'm not sure, but my rego is for $321.24 and that seems a little steep compared with the car rego. I get the feeling it's already gone up, ACC levys are probably one of those things the government can adjust as soon as it likes.

I've seen a few teenagers riding small motorcross bikes around in Khandallah of all places, just in shorts and a T shirt. I think American motorcycling culture has a lot to do with it, young impressionable teenagers watching poser videos of American riding in just shorts and T shirts.
You don't see many videos of them crashing and bleeding in serious pain, just the glamour videos.
