Another good reason to home school.
Sorry to hear, life can be a real pain in the arse some times eh?
As others have stated they probably already at that stage in life where they think they're all that and they're too smart and cool to listen to anyone, especially adults. You can do your best to tell them how you feel about the situation but sadly won't probably do much, now. And I agree that if you're going to say something write it down like you would a speech and prepare, and don't feel silly if you need to read from a sheet or note card to let them and the school and/or the police how you feel.
Best of luck, and aye perhaps some type of contact/defense sport might help, wouldn't necessarily guarantee can defend oneself in a fight but at least know how to handle yourself as well as gives ya confidence and all that jazz.

First point of call is the police and lay a complaint of assault. As for the school doing the right thing that sounds like doing the right thing for the student and not the staff member concerned.
The school may call it ‘restorative action’ but in fact it is sitting round the table with all the support that the boys can muster while they make excuses for the behavour and try and get your partner to forgive them. If you want my ‘suggestion’ have nothing to do with it. Get your partner to contact the teacher board rep and lay it on the line. The students are to be ‘excluded’ that’s the new buzz word for expelled. I’d be inclined to contact the Union rep in the school and get them involved too.
The school board has a legal obligation to ensure the safety of their staff. Any thing less than an expulsion where serious violence is concerned is in my opinion a gross derelection of their responsibility to their employees.

A police investigation needs to run concurrent to the school one. You are wasting your time waiting to see what the other parents do. You need Police photography to take studio photos, and a doctor to document the injuries in a way that they can be produced as evidence.
In my school (I'm BOT chair) this type of behaviour would guarantee a 7-day suspension, followed by an exclusion - no question at all.
Creating introverts......?
Two of my two cousins were home-schooled. They're weird. It does'nt happen to all home-schoolers but all I have met that were home-schooled are a bit weird.
Plus they're limited to the knowledge of their parents. Lecture notes are'nt enough. Especially at secondary level.
Besides, they'll never live it down if they end up in a job like mine! (did you have a crush on your teacher?was your teacher hot?ever get sent to the principal etcetc)

I detest bullying more than most things. But concussion goes beyond mere bullying. Either call in the cops and lay charges, or enlist half a dozen Welly riders to sort them out. The school is effectively condoning the behaviour.

Damn... I remember when I got into fights in year 9 and maybe a busted lip or a black eye came into it, but kicking someone on the ground and going 2-1 is a little more than "boys being boys", so I hope the school treats it that way.
Ahemmmmm.... I did not say I agree with home schooling, just playing devil's advocate. I do think that those who have been considering it would see cases like this as another good reason to do it. I believe in "The School of Hard Knocks", but bullying does suck, and mainstream school can be very difficult for kids who are 'different' already.
The more worrying thing is how the bullying affects the bullied. I was bullied at school (the result of parents that moved around a lot so I was always the new face with no mates) and it has made me a really twisted individual. Instead of being confrontational I tend to wait between 5-10 years and then get even ensuring that my victim never knows who caused his problem. Apparently this is not very PC but it helps me move on from being bullied.:

Those violent thugs are probably happy that they're getting a holiday from school, even if it's in the form of suspension. Definately get the police involved, and insist on getting photography done ASAP. The cop dealing with the case should then give you their business card with an event number written on the back. If you don't hear back from the cop within a couple of weeks, call them and quote the event number. Easy as.
