My first bike - GN250E 2007

Hi All,
Just signed up. I got my first bike a few days ago and my learner's license a day after. I just turned 28 (to let you know my age).

I bought a 2007 Suzuki GN250E for a good price. Only has 2,000 kms.

I'm still a bit scared riding. I went out at last night and felt pretty good about it. Riding still strikes me as a dangerous thing. But, I have faith. And respect for the thing.

I have a question, too. This bike has a few cosmetic blemishes. The one I want to fix pronto, is the broken speedo glass. Speedo works and I can see my speed easily (phew!), but the glass is pretty broken and the speedo itself is a bit mangled.

How can I get this done, and still retain the accurate kilometres? Do you think this will be an expensive process? Can I do it myself?

My thread on the "i got my full" might give some useful stuff.

I always suggest people try and get it done themselves, it would surprise me if you couldn't replace the glass on the spedo but its possible that its a part you can't fix, there are some pretty awesome wreckers around welly's so you are in the right place for parts

Take a bit of time each day to practice on the things you don't feel confident, i spend an hour a night for the first couple of weeks riding up and down a driveway starting and stopping just to take the pressure off the whole "oh my god that's an intersection" feeling, then a few weeks doing figure eights around cones and practicing emergency breaking.

There should be a mentor in your area who may be able to offer some really good advice, seek them out!

Keep it upright and make sure you are having fun, the fun gauge is a good measure of safety when you are starting out.

First of all from me too...welcome aboard...The GN250s are not a bad bike to learn on as long as you dont intend to do a lot of open road/motorway riding. They are limited on power and wil struggle against a stiff welly headwind...They are reliable and take a whole lot of piunding...I am not speaking outta my ass here...had a couple of them in my day, and they are great little commuters...

As posted above, check out the wreckers..or even parts on trademe. You might get a good fix with a bit of silicon gel and another glass piece.

Find a quiet place and practice, practice practice....empty carparks are a good start...


Oh, and try to get to some of the KB social things....get to know some of us personally and you will find a whole group of people prepared to help...
