We did the waitangi, totem x2 and the Tussock Buster on Saturday and the totem twice on Sunday-quite liked the second half of that one.

And I have heaps of video that will take me a while to process

A little panorama part way down one of the hills:

The bog - Lucky I took a good line through there, so it only took one person to pull my bike out instead of four or five - it was a real sinkhole!:

There are some pix on my facebook too, but not many.

    What a bloody fantastic weekend.
We did Waitangi a couple of times on Saturday so i could get used to my bike. ive got a really bad habit of counter steering when I hit corners to fast. We then did Sniper Saturday afternoon. Sunday we hit Totem in the morning then again in the afternoon. About 5km in the second time my back tyre blew out so we had to limp home.
Four hours later back to Wellington.
    Roll on next year.

Bloody awesome wknd - great riding. Huge improvements with so many things from last year. Kids had an absolute ball & gained alot of confidence & speed over the wknd.

    Had a great time!
Most enjoyable part would have been the nice open flowing part of the tussock loop after the big bog and forest section, with yet another bog
It was my first good ride since I did my fork oil too. The front end of the KDX is so much better with some 7.5wt fork oil in it.
Was good to catch up with n00bie and RITTRed. Tent threatened to leak again, even after we water proofed it. RITTRed lent us a tarp, cheers bro!

Didn't sleep well on Saturday night, stupid music playing until 1am or something. It wasn't good music either....

We spent a while helping people up that first big hill climb. I think we spent too much time there actually, as I was pretty stuffed after that and we were probably only about 1/4 of the way into the ride.

That big bog sucked me in good on our first loop. So good infact that I couldn't even get myself out of it, let alone the bike. In the process of extracting myself it sucked the sole off one of my boots. Time for a new set I guess. Set of trackers have lasted me over two years now, so I think I got good value out of them

On Sunday we did Sniper Alley without SpikedPunch. She had no clutch left so it was just Meatbomb and I.
It was pretty sweet, except for a boggy section that screwed me up good. It was rutted out pretty badly with each rut filled with water. KDX isn't exactly renowned for its great fork clearance, which proved to be a problem. Managed to get hung up pretty good while all the mx bikes squeezed through without trouble. Doh.
This happened again on the same loop, but this time it was on an up hill. There were two big ruts neither of which the KDX's forks would clear. Thankfully there was an alternative route.

Felt my riding improved a bit during the weekend, but I need to get better at riding bogs. I also discovered that a bike with less fork over hang would have made my life much easier.

i found a sweet technique for the mud bog the dam buster / tussock / sniper alley shortly after fuel stop 1, the technique was ease into it at medium pace, hook 3rd, and fucken feed it to it! i tried gently, and tried full noise, but ease in, then feed it to it worked best lol

i had a bit of time to watch how everyone was trying to get through the first bog on sniper alley while i was fishing my bike out. the best technique i saw was a couply of guys jumping the bugger. dont think id be to keen to try but was cool to watch.

I was talking on Sunday morning to one of the marshals & Sat night they got 5 by helicopter (had only gone to get 1 quad that was way down a bank but the other 4 it was just easier to get by chopper than get the unimog to them. so they collected then put on back of the mog.
