so, about 6 weeks ago I had a spill on my ZZR, it was a write of and after much stuffing around with the insurance they finally paid up, I bought a new (to me) bike last weekend, and on Friday me and my wife took off for the weekend to pick it up from new Plymouth.
what a weekend for it, blue sky everywhere, after spending the night in Wanganui (freekin cliff Richards meant that new Plymouth was booked out) we got to new Plymouth and I picked her up, I was rapped, the add had said "cosmetically not the best" and all it was, was a couple of runs in the paint, it only took me a five minute test ride to get the confidence that I had lost after the accident back, and soon I was riding on the open road, bathing in the sunshine and heading back to Wanganui, the bike was humming along, it didn't miss a beat.
Just south of Harwera I came across a car on the side of the road, I could see there was a lady with her kid sitting in the car in the middle of nowhere so I pulled in behind them to see if they needed any help, turned out they had a flat tyre and their wheel brace didn't fit the wheels on their car:slap:, so I waited for the wife to turn up with my socket set and whipped the wheel off, not a prob, grabbed the spare from their boot and went to put it on, turns out the spare doesn’t fit their car either.:slap:
well I didn't want to leave them stranded there (no cell coverage on this part of the road) so I put the flat tyre back on and told her to move it of the edge of the road so it didn't get hit, and my wife would run them to hawera so they could sort it out, the lady was grateful for the help, she jumped in her car, started it up, stuck it in reverse and promptly BACKED THE FUCK OVER MY BIKE
long story short, turns out, no insurance, no license, no money. I fully insured the bike before picking it up but now I’m out $700 in excess till the insurance sorts it out with her.
The moral of the story? From now on I will not stop for cars on the side of the road!!!
The only bright side to my day was the fact that every 1 of the 15 sport bikes that passed me stopped to see if I was ok (no thanks for the group of cruisers that didn't even slow down as they sped past literally inches from me and the bike scaring the shit out of me) and I owe a huge thanks to "repsol rider" who said he was a KBer, for stopping, then taking an hour of his time to go get his van, come back to get my bike and take it back to his place, where it would be safe while I hunted for parts to get it ridable so I could get it back to wellington, then he let me use his garage at 11pm and helped me fix it even though he had to work at 5am.
You're a legend mate, and if I can ever return the favour I owe you big time
