Risks you taking buying a bike online...(bit of a rant sorry)

Like the title said this is a bit of a vent due to an overwhelming urge to punch some one in the head!
To cut a long story short, there was a bike on trademe, made the guy an offer, he said yes. Score!
Were in Palmy hes in Hamilton. organised to come up and pick up yesterday bc he was going away for the wknd...fair enough. (for those of you not familiar with the drive its a good 5hr trip each way) so off we go, the closer we get the more my other half is considering heavy sedation on my part lol (come on its my first bike-its exciting!!!)
ok so were in Hamilton we text the guy and say well be 30mins, he texts back and says "whos this?" were like "the ppl coming to pick up the bike"...20mins later no answer. got to MR Motors and rang him, bugger me his phone is off?
so in we go to hand over the moolah and put the bike on the ute...hang on wheres the bike? Hold up, WHERES THE GUY?!
The 'owner' of the workshop said his 'mate' was storing the bike at his workshop til it sold but he came and picked it up on Thurs night....AND HES GONE AWAY FOR THE WEEKEND!!!

after ringing his phone a million times it was either off or let to go to voicemail. SON OF A!!!

Now if your still reading and you were this wanker would you not have the decency to text me at least and say "hey, sorry got a better offer." NOT and I Repeat NOT let us waste our god damn time spending a good 10+ hours on the road, plus petrol (in an 06 holden crewman not cheap!)

Ok rant over, just extremely slutted-first bike and all. i wont mention the members name but if your friends with some one in Hamilton who just sold a VT250, tell them i say hi!

    I know the feeling...
Leave a fully detailed rant on trademe, what happened and what he did more than your feelings about it. The facts will be a better read rather than what you think of him. People don't empathise with how you felt, but they will think about what the facts were and what it could mean to them.

That truly sucks. What a total timewaster. Do put the facts up on trademe.

And it is particularly gutting when it is your first bike- they ARE special!

im not that familiar with the ins and outs of trade me it was the other halfs account and he said something about bc the listing had no reserve or buy now it just had the price or near offer you cant do the bad feedback bc you havent actually won an auction...or something like that. i think my partners going to look at makin a complaint to trade me. and youre right, regardless of how i feel about this tit i just dont want someone else being dicked around by him.

Post your bitch on TradeMe so that others don't suffer the same b/s. I would think the operators of the site would like to know about it too. I have bought everything from three bikes to our house on TM and never had a hassle, so I'd say nail the wanker. He'll give TM a bad name and people like yourself will stop using the site or at least be wary of it. Not kosher.

As it happens I flew to Auckland to buy my bike and it was everything the guy said it was. I rode it home. There are some honest folks left, don't despair.

Breach of Contract. You could send him an invoice for your time and expenses - then refer it to Baycorp for fun.

    Better to move on though.

I hit the buynow on a car a few years back, Bought a plane ticket to Auckland, Left teh seller a message saying I was on my way.

He said Can't do it, already sold it to a mate, Just haven't pulled the add.

I said fuck no, Get it back off him, Im on my way.

Funny enough he did, went and took the car back and sold it to me. I would have told me to get fucked.

so it was a classified ad not an auction.A contract has still been made.It will be easier to prove that a contract has been made if there are emails but a spoken contract is still binding, just harder to prove.

i was just thinking that. we still have texts from him and us agreeing on price and place to pick up etc. our main point is to just let ppl know to be a bit careful with this one. its not so much about 'nailing' him but bad feedback usually does more damage and will hopefully make him pull his head out next time...hopefully

I'm not shy! when you've settled this thing one way or another(heard from the cretin, at least) then post his name up here and in tardme, we all of us need to know who we can trustAND who we CAN'T.
Head up and keep yer eyes peeled. Genie and peasea are both right, the bike for you will be better than this one ever was.

I really dont see why he shouldnt pay for your gas + time and/or deliver the bike himself or pay for delivery. what a douche. i would not give up so easily. follow up. make him pay.

inconsiderate bastard. i know how much gas those crewmans use. its just not fair on you if you have to do it all over again (you'd be an idiot if you do).

btw a little bit of a louder tone on the phone gets the point through quicker.
