Australians ready to Invade Harrisville
The annual Auckland Motocross Champs held at Mr Motorcycles Raceway Harrisville on March 6th and 7th take on a new challenge this year as 15 of the top Australian young riders come in to take on the top Kiwi’s.
This year’s Oceania Motocross Champs is run alongside the Auckland Champs will pit top Aussie 65cc, 85cc and 125cc under 18 riders against a Kiwi team ready to win on home soil.
Widely regarded as one of NZ’s best motocross faculties the team at the Pukekohe Motorcycle Club has provided some new sections to the Harrisville tracks which winds up and down the valleys to provide some of the biggest jumps in the country.
Saturday sees the running of the Auckland Junior and Mini Motocross Champs, with riders from 6 years old competing on the Mini track and riders from 8 years old on the main track, With 15 Aussies taking on the kiwi’s on the exciting Harrisville track trying to take the Auckland Title back across the Tasman. The Vets in 35 plus also race on Saturday feature former over 50 World Champ Tony Cooksley, and twice world 500cc runner up Darryll King.
Sunday sees the Aussies return to take on a kiwi team from riders all over the NZ compete in 2 races reach class for the Oceania results, the Aussie Team Includes current world 85cc Champ Dylan Long, but leading the NZ charge is a strong team that Includes world # 5 Courtney Duncan, NZ championship winning McGoldrick brothers, Pukekohe own Sean O’Conner, and for the first time ever 65cc riders will be racing under the NZ team umbrella,
Sunday also sees the Running of the Auckland Motocross Champs for seniors, international experienced riders such as current NZ # 1 Justin McDonald, and his USA travelling partner Luke Burkhart headline the 450cc class, with local Pukekohe based riders Jesse Lim, Stephen Smith and James Sutherland using their local knowledge to keep up with NZ’s best talented riders, The MX2 Class will be stacked and often provides the closest racing, former winner of the Auckland Title Nick Saunders will be looking to repeat the title, Hamilton’s Jesse Wiki is fresh off winning the NZ Grand prix at Woodville, Honda’s national # 3 Peter Broxholme who is always a threat and will lead team Honda’s charge.
