Can I pay my registration early and AVOID the new fees?

The following is the information I got from the NZTA today:

The new fees start from 1 July 2010

If your registration expires on or after that date you are screwed. You will be liable to pay the new fees even if you go in and pay early...

If your registration is due before that date you can relicence using the usual forms for up to 12 months.

Or you can fill in a MR27 for a maximum of 15 months. use of the MR27 will incur a $7.30 administration charge.

So there it is... the hot oil from the NZTA. Please post here if you have heard any different.

PLEASE don't turn this in to a I am paying/I'm not paying debate. This is purely for information of those that intend to pay.

I had renewed mine for 6 months then saw the light and extended to 15 months using the MR27 did not notice an additional charge in fact the 9 months seemed to be at a lower rate then the 6. I then sold the bike so the new owner gets the benefit. This was a month ago.

and be aware that if your rego extends past the new fee date it is likely to be stolen. I had mine nicked Sunday week ago at Raglan - along with my plate. What a dick - if my plate had been left I wouldn't have noticed the rego was gone.

    Great information, thank you.

Where do you get an MR27 form?

I asked at the AA today and they said "15 months rego! Not possible. Can't be done."

My brother did it at NZ Post, he was also told it wasn't possible, he told them to read the back of the form!
They put it in and low and behold out came the 15 mth rego

Rego runs out this week so hmmmm 3 months might be the go and then 15 months in june !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

My rego is due on 11/04/2010.
The MR 27 form allows you to change the expiry date up to 15 months from the date of application.
So I will change my expiry date to 28/06/2010.and then on 27/06/2010 change it again to 27/09/2011 to get maximum bang for my buck

Edit: I just realised I don't need to use the MR27 twice, just extend the expiry from a date as close to july 1 as possible
