Hi all,
I am probably sounding a bit iggnorant here but it just occured to me that I have never had to park a bike on a hill. I've google but can't seem to find anything useful. If anyone could let me know (a picture would really help) that would be great.

I have to do this frequently. Others might have some different advice but, I always park my bike with front wheel facing uphill. If you're on the left hand side of the road, park your bike on an angle so that the front wheel is closest to the curb. If you're on the right hand side of the road, rear wheel closest to the curb. This is just so that your bike is leaning onto the side stand and won't topple over easily. Obviously, leave it in gear so it doesnt roll away.Originally Posted by FlyingKiwi

depends on the slope but sidestand in gear is the most secure option if there isnt a kerb or similar to stop the bike rolling.When manoevering on a hill remember to always try to put the uphill foot down.

For me with short legs I have to be really careful parking on a hill. I tend to point up hill, and back onto the curb so I am about 45 degrees to the road. Gives me enough lean so the side stand bites in, but allows me to stand the bike up off the stand unaided too. Having the curb behind the rear tyre adds a bit of extra security to the start too. You dont want to be facing down hill or you will potentially roll off the stand, and directly uphill will not give you enough lean to get down on the side stand properly. Leave the bike in gear too, stop a potential forward creeping motion if the gear box is engaged.

Facing uphill and leave it in gear. If it's a really steep hill ..... park somewhere else.

A newb thing I keep doing is grabbing the clutch forgetting the bike is sitting in gear and it suddenly rolls backward.

I have a circle of rubber cut off an inner tube on my throttle grip which I put over the front break for extra security on hills & if i have to leave the bike on a ferry which may start rocking & rolling. Bit like a handbrake.
GOOD ROADS, NUTHIN 2 RIDE
Its good for hills and any time you transport your bike especially if you have CVT transmission.

I am not fond of using the engine compression as a parking brake. The compression will leak down over the next few minutes or hours, and ditch your bike on the ground.

Ive had bikes where the compression has leaked out, normally preceded by lotsa blue smoke.

Back the bike in so the back wheel is in the gutter against the kerb, the rest is pointing uphill, and leave it in gear. No rolling downhill off the stand, no relying on engine compression.

my bike has a main stand so hills aint an issue.
