Josh Says: "We are off to a decent start and we can build from this"

    Hi there,

Well GP 1 is over... the track was awesome. I was a little nervous after last year’s wet round 1! I didn’t really know what to expect in Bulgaria but it was fine and Sunday we had a really nice day. As for my results and Aprilia I was happy. My goal was top 10 – sure I want better. I’m not always going to be happy with that but we’re off to a decent start and we can build from this.

I think I surprised a lot of people! The bike is good, we just have a few small issues that we can work on... and trust me we are. I expected KTM to be good as I raced both Max and Tony at the last Italian round. I saw they were good there. It’s amazing how stacked with talent the MX1 class is! I mean you have to ride good to get points! I had mentally prepared myself not to flip out if I came around and saw 20th place on my pit board because I was well aware of the depth in MX1 in 2010.

This weekend is Mantova, a track I don’t like.. well ‘don’t like’ are big words. I do like it I just struggle to go fast there and I always have, even in 07 when I won both motos. That was because I was the strongest not the fastest, so this weekend will be much of the same. I will need good starts (which I seem to get on Aprilia!) and fight all the way. It will be a tough race but i have no doubt we can back up GP1 with decent results.

How about a US GP! That’s cool huh. I am happy to be able to go and race at Glen Helen as I’ve never raced there before so I can’t wait. Hopefully some AMA riders support the race and we’ll have all the best riders at one race. Imagine how stacked MX1 will be then!

I don’t have a lot more to report on. All I’ve been doing is racing and training and traveling! My daughter is growing up fast. She’s started talking a few words ‘mm mmm’ is motorbike and when she watches MX on TV she yells “go go go!” I’m not sure if she’s yelling at daddy or not yet??? but she loves MX.

Well that’s it for now. I’ll keep it short and try to check in a bit more regularly...

    Cheers,

    JC

Not so good in qualifying, 23rd. Nothing a good holeshot wouldn't fix.

    Tough Italian GP for Coppins.

The second round of the FIM Motocross World championship saw close to 20.000 spectators turn out for the GP of Lombardia in Italy. Factory Aprilia racer, Josh Coppins, got off to a rough start when he collided with Frenchman Greg Aranada in mid air and was lucky to escape without any serious injuries during the Saturday qualifying race. Despite the huge crash Coppins still managed to nurse his mangled machine to 24th place.

With weather conditions much cooler for Sunday’s GP, Coppins rolled onto the start line bruised and stiff. Being placed on a wide gate resulted in a poor start, but things got worse as another crash left Coppins on the deck and in 33rd position. Pushing hard ‘Lizzard’ salvaged 17th spot by the end of a grueling moto.

Rough track conditions made for a difficult final race however Coppins grabbed a great start and was placed inside the top ten. Battling back and forth with some of the competition, Coppins lost some ground at the mid-way point, but with just ten minutes left on the clock he put in a last minute charge and salvaged a few positions to cross the finish line in 11th position.

“The weekend started off with a scare. Aranda got cross rutted on the take off and came across me in mid air and we hit the ground really hard. I was lucky to get away with only a few bruises and a slight concussion. Considering the poor gate pick, and related starts, I was relatively happy with the results, but if I am totally honest I will be happy to forget this GP.”

The GP teams will be afforded a week’s break before round 3 takes place in Valkenswaard on the 24th -25th of April.

oh shit one of those weekends aye! Bugger was hoping he'd have better luck!
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '

He's hard as nails, certainly have to give him that. Ribs must still be sore from last time as well.

Saw a mid-air prang like this (on TV) Barret rd Nats last year. Ugly metallic 'clang' when they came together and one them them came down very hard. Real nasty way to bin it and it would really mess with the head.

    Bugger!

Only 34th and 2 laps in the 1st moto but 9th place and 19 laps in the 2nd and less than a min behind 1st.

    Wonder what happened?

    2min 1st lap and 4min 2nd lap. Sounds mechanical.
