I hear ya...you probably read previous comments on this but my KTM mechanic said the stock map is soley designed for the nuke exhaust with its restricted air and cat-converter. After market exhausts which allow the engine to breathe a bit easier changes the FI mix...having said that if your running the silencer I dont think it makes a huge difference?

Yeah I had half expected problems, but my bike was running a bit rich prior to the new exhaust. But now it seems to be fine.

I will give it a try on the other settings see how that goes, looking nice out there at the moment could be a good day for a sneaky afternoon ride.

I saw the KTM powerpart cast, so was curious about the foot/leg...have you explained anywhere in the thread what that is about...bike related or life related?

Bike related not on this thread as it was prior to and the reason for the 690. I had an 07 990...the one with the dodgie low speed FI..anyway was happily coming into a nice left hander on an easy down hill stretch of gravel, low revs in third gear dropped it into 2nd.... engine stalls locks rear end, small skid then catches on hardpack, highside, 220kg plus momentum lands on my leg, crushed left foot with mulitple fractures, broken tib & fib, damaged knee..yada yada. Second bit of bad luck was the surgeon removing the rod form my legg 12months later left one screw in while happily hammering out the rod and shattering my tibia in the process....hence 3yrs latter and 6 painfull opperations...but looking good now

...oh man!, I wish I hadnt asked...you poor bastard - that sounds shite to say the least.

Funny enough (if u can laugh), when I was last up your way at Shoal beach, I was heading to havelock along probably some of the same roads you travel no doubt on the 690 which was its first major outing, and during that ride I was starting to push it along as I was amazed at how easy it was to get along...anyway, was starting to get a little cocky - overcooked a corner, slid, couldn't correct enough (the trellis frame limits steerling lock) went into a ditch, high-sided and went down the road. forunately I flew further than the bike. The bike took it pretty well, I did strip one of the handle bars risers out of the triple clamp plus some other minor damages but nothing really.

heal fast, time for the rugger...go the AB's!!!

WOW...remapped, and opened the airbox...what a rocket now!

As you guys know, I got the remap done this week, and while it feels better alround, more repsonsive and idles better...I hadn't actually taken it for a proper fang...which I just did this morning. Before I went over the rimutakas, I opened up the airbox (it had been extensively drilled before which I had taped up, but now have removed it so it can breathe better

OMG...what a fricken weapon, the bike was fast before, but now its bloody quick..from 6000 - 8000 (yes it rev's higher now) it pulls like a school boy, its like its got a new cam. Combine that with the 2nd and 3rd power restriction gone, it made the sprint from corner to corner far more agressive.

Honestly, I'd recommend anyone with the 690 to do this upgrade....do it Chris - just pay for an hours labour to get the and your bike will be the dakar machine.

    holy shit...I'm still amazed

perhaps...you may have mentioned it in passing, but I think I still said it better...lol - 6-ninety rules!!!

I've recently put on the Pirelli MT21 front for the off-road stuff which is does well...but eek...it gives a head shake now at speed, whereas the D605's that were on before were rock solid. I've adjusted a few settings to help it, and pumping the pressure way up on the front helped...but 150+ aint time for speed wobbles

Ive never had a full on front knobby on the 690 but the day is comming!! For high speed I think you need to get the wheels balanced but not sure MT21 is rated for that speed? I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to tires especially fronts....I'm currently running an E07 on the front which is wearing well but not confidence inspiring on gravel. Ive noticed the guys (and girl) that pass me on gravel usually have more aggressive fronts so I guess that gives them better steering?

    The 90/90/21, 130/90/18 and 130/90/17 are "R" rated - 170kph.

    yup...what he say.

the MT21 is a lot better offroad for sure, and will likely keep it on...as the wear down will improve things.

I've done my own kiwi special balance with small self made weights... quite simple and effective enough, with the wheel off and hanging off the work bench..its quite easy to see the natural heavy point so whack a few small spoke weights on the opposite side of the heavy point. Pretty primitive, but generally gets the vibration out the way.

My head shake is classic speed wobbles, and not vibration as such, it starts to wander and weave....

While the D605 wasn't ideal for turning on the gravel...it tracked straight - 159Kph on the gravel road out to ruakokapatuna, wairarapa...yee hah
