Cool bike Marty reminds me of the events i watched in the UK of guys on trials bikes riding over cars and those huge cable rolls and made it look soooo easy, whats the plan with using it ? are you going to enter trials events like the one they have at Karhuranaki station ? Never ridden one but would love a go just to see what its like.
yup, the 690 needs a few mods to make it more suited to adv riding but once sorted its a pretty handy machine. Never know, may end up down in the deep south someday
Cheers bro. My plan is to just have fun on it, do some trials-adventure riding and learn some new skills. Have had her out couple of times and had a blast. Takes some getting used to but a laugh a minute. Your more than welcome to have a fang on her once I've replaced the top end roller bearing I cooked after drowning it last weekend....but we will have the cameras watching![]()

Hey,
Just replaced both rocker arms, as I had developed a bad clacking from the top of the motor. AT first I thought I might have done something wrong when I installed the MCCT from rally raid...but it wasn't that.
SInce I didn't know which one was failing, I got both...pretty cheap so why stress over which one, and if one was going perhaps the other might (or might not). Easy replacement to do at home...so did it yesterday. Also has bought the hotcams shim kit so that I got all the sizes at my fingertip.
SOoo much better, and power has returned as well. The last couple of weeks, I've hated riding the bike...noisy, bad starting, lost low end power...etc.
I don't see this failure/wear as a bad thing, its the price to pay for superb performance...33000k's

...back in the saddle, and getting a little!
Hey Clint, hows your auto electrical career been progressing since the lost weekend ride? That was some fun and some not so much. To keep up the good name of bad workmen I decided my inability to round a corner on gravel was purely the fault of the beemer, and so replaced her with a younger and perkier 690 and am now busy gaining experience (largely via paypal) and getting to enjoy the slippy stuff a bit more. I see they have a 'cool wall' on here and was wishing I had a pic of Guzzi in full regalia aboard the GS. So you still blasting around on the 640? One reason I thought less is more is how the 1200 could barely keep up with you on the seal! Just playing with a firmer spring to sharpen up the 690 and have added a few other goodies like it really needs it
Cheers
Simon
Hi mate! (thanks again for the tow, please don't ever tell anybody I had to get rescued by a GS beemer) Thankfully that pesky rubbed wire remains the only time the 640 has ever left me stranded in 120 000 km. I've just finished building & installing a custom 7" headlight setup to upgrade from the ptiful stocker on the 640 & have done some tidying of the loom & stripped out some redundant crap.
Good to see you've seen the light & gone orangeThe 640 gets along ok but the 690 is something else, nicer both on & offroad than the 640. (apart from the seat!) Have fun!
Cheers
Clint
Went out with Wade and Jimmy today for some light recreational riding on the wee bikes
