Yeah, I had seen those rotopax before, they do look like quite a good solution, but if I am going the cheap way, it will be the very cheap way. After all I managed my trip down south a couple of years back without any extra fuel (saying that, I could have done with just a little more fuel once).

I do hope to do the molesworth/rainbow this time, last time I was in a hurry to get south so I did not dick around much on my way. This year I will have more time. Once I get a better view of Jan I shall do some planning and try and get some company for parts of the trip.
I also hope to get a ride into the clarence river valley.

Shes all back together and lookin sick

...even road it around the cul de sac...first ride in over 3 months.....would you believe it, almost got run over by a neighbour who wasn't looking where she was driving and nearly drove straight into me!

nother couple of weeks an I should be good to go

Good to hear you are back on the road, I have been away from my bike for 3 weeks, I can't even imagine how bad 3 months is.

I've been lusting over the rear tank unit they (rally raid) make, as its quite clever and little impact to the look PLUS it gives the right side of the bike some support meaning that saddle bags can be used. BUT they are bloody expensive, and still commercially...unavailable.

I've been applying some commonsense (for once) and the real advantage of the RR tanks is 'racing' capacity ie race without having to stop. Since we are allowed to stop, and probably need to...simply carry a 4l or 5L container is all you need and comparing $700 NZD to $15NZD is pretty hard to justify. At this stage, Im buying a new leo vince slip on muffler and wolfman tank bag AND the cheap fuel tank.

Once I run out of things to buy...then that will be last on the list.

I fitted a Leo Vince slip on - US$289 - arrived within the week and been great so far - price has gone up a bit since. Weight was the main reason - the standard nuclear reactor weighs over 5 kgs, the LV only 2.3 kgs. Has stopped my header cracking problem, got rid of the heat issue (can touch it after a ride!) and given the bike a bit more lift - sounds good too. Got mine from: http://www.renazcoracing.com/

Damn, that is a nice price. I wish they were still that price with the Kiwi$ being so strong vs the USD would be a hell-of-a-deal.

sheesh that is cheap, my unit is in transit (paid usd $379) but with the strong exchange rate, I'm sure it will be fine (I'm guessing that it why its up for them to)...and I to purchased off the fine people at Renazco. I'm after the same heat, weight, sound resolution.

I've been a bit worried about all the remapping shit..as I really don't want to mess with it, and beleive the leo vince has enough restriction to hopefully prevent that.

I've ordered a wolfman tank bag as well which is being shipped as part of the order. $70 bucks for shipping.

...Also...I've just been to LA for work, and feel much better coping with the price of shipping now. The reason being, is that LA is massive, and I took a cab to visit some stores, and while the cabs are relatively cheap...the cost racks up. For instance, I went to Hollywood and bought some t-shirts and crap for the kids which cost nothing but the return cab ride was $50 ...so that really blew the value, and it made me realise that worrying about shipping didn't seem to be such a prob as I was thought.
