if you haven't already, replace your standard paper airfilter with an oiled foam filter before you ride on dusty roads,as paper one passes fine dust through your airbox. if you want to get you 690 running smooth, check out tuneecu and have a play.
what year is your 690?
My 690 is an 09. I replaced my paper filter with a foam unifilter some time back (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...venture/page24). works with the standard air box so plug and play
bought my unifilter direct from unifilter in Aussie - still use the standard box and snorkel setup

I put a Foam Unifilter from Aussy $ 58.00 nzd still use the standard air snorkel still goes the same.
dealer, supplied mine with the bike from new. it, a ktm one,but i think it is pretty much the same as the uni one.
www.unifilter.com.au $ 39.50 aussy dollars
These don't have a cage they fit in just like the standard paper filter works OK
hey,
I've always wanted one, and thought I'd cough up the dollars for me xmas pressie. Clearly, I justify this as "insurance", and a safety feature...as technically they do offer that, so it makes the cost more bearable - oh well that's the story for the wife :-D. I thought it would be good for dusty butt 2014 which should be great.
I bought a complete kit via a rider on advrider forum (RBOTT), he runs an engineering business in the USA somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Very tidy kit, and as part of my order with him, I bought the KTM PDHS bar mounts to complete the ensemble.
It was a perfect fit, and is one of the few kits around that preserve the steering lock functionality.
check it...

looks great. I keep having this recurring thought that If I had one of those when Larry the lamb ran into my front wheel I might have just run the little sod over instead of hitting the deck - will never know but thinking seriously about adding one to what ever bike I end up with.

How are you healing Marty and more importantlywhat state is the bike in?

Hi Eddie - Recovery has been a tad slow but the Doctors say I'm going better than expected. Worse thing has been my ribs which are just no funWill be looking seriously at a chest protector as part of my new riding kit.
The insurance company have sent one assessor to look at the bike - we were going to send it to AFC in Palmy for a repair price but they are now sending another bloke to look at it as they don't think it is worth fixing as the frame looks like its bent. I found two dents in the space frame either side of the triple clamps which looks like the forks have slammed into and I reckon the front end has moved 15mm back towards the engine. A real shame as apart from that there's probably only $4K of cosmetic damage.
They have already paid out for my riding gear so am busy looking for new stuff but no hurry - wont be riding for a wee while but will be on the beta as soon as I'm able![]()

Eddie bet me to it...as I was wondering how you were getting on. I'd say you'd be better to right it off (the bike that is :-D), as there will always be something not quite right in the future....but the trouble now will be that you have added so many extras that I doubt the insurance guys will pay out on those bits. If they do say it's completely knackered, see if you can buy the bike back off them as a wrecker would do?
Anyway.,,Still sounds like you were a lucky unlucky bastard to hit that sheep, yet get away with it.

...back in the saddle, and getting a little!
My plan is to ask the nice insurance man if can swap the aftermarket stuff for the original bits as they are in new condition and the bike was insured as a stock 690 so they aren't losing out....will see how it goes. If the buy back price is low enough I might consider it. Would love another 690 but don't know the budget will stretch that far - the EVO2 kit from rally raid looks good though![]()

Hey Marty
Good to hear your progress is going better than expected!
Just don't jump the gun and get out too soon...seen the results of that too often..
So, guess you still don't have the final word on the 690?
I am in the states until the 23rd of January. After that I can help with whatever you want/need help with concerning the bike.
Take Care and I'll try not to freeze it was -17 C here the other night..Cold , Cold!!!

Gidday Wade, that sounds a tad chilly man! Hope you took ya longjohns
In another twist to the 690 tale - AFC phoned yesterday to say the insurers made contact and asked them to collect the bike and check it outso they are sending bike trans to pick it up next week...go figure.
The hope is they may be able to repair it including a new frame for under its insurance value. I fully trust AFC can fix it as good as new (which I would be more than happy with) but it will come down to cost at the end of the day - stranger things have happened![]()
