3 News reported police had established his identity after people who knew him saw the images and contacted them.

According to 3 News, the suspect has left the country and fled to China.

"We believe he is overseas and we are working with the appropriate agencies to locate him," said Detective Senior Sergeant
Hywel Jones, officer in charge of the investigation.

"While we're disappointed a broadcaster chose to publicise some details we would rather not have been made public at this time for operational reasons, the long term outcome of our investigation will reveal whether their choice has any influence on our efforts to track him down.""



Whilst I am retiiscent to put words into Mr Hywel Jones mouth, I think what he really meant was "gee, thanks you fucking media retards for jepordising subsequent court action in tandem with the judiciary who are actively seeking to free the defendant(in this case the accused) of any culpability in respect of this crime".

With you on this one. I often wondering what the hell the media is doing when they publish some of there shit to me they just telling people what they need to do to commit some of these crimes and how to get away with it.

AFAIK, the media got their information from the Police - IIRC, the Police released the security camera footage/photo and asked for information about who the guy was.

Generally, if the Police say to the media "Chaps, please don't publish XYZ, cos we think it'll stuff up our case" the media often don't.

I don't see how the Police can ask the media for assistance, and then complain because the media gave out too much information. Perhaps the Police have an unauthorized leak in their department - but then that's not the media's fault either.

Plus the ghoulish glee with which Joe Q Public lap up these things has a lot to answer for (you only have to refer to "Biker Down" threads on here to get that - it's almost a competition to see who can post the details first.
