servicing

Ok guys, my bikes been off the road for 5 months now and im starting to prep it for when i can ride it again (just under 6weeks), and what i want to know is some info about servicing.

It hasnt been run for 5months except for a startup each day to keep it fresh. Should i wait until it's been riding for about a week or so or would it be ok to take it in for a service as is. The only problem i see is that i can ride again 2 days before Xmas so i got a shit show of getting it serviced then.

Also im in Auckland, what prices do you guys reckon it would be to get a full service done on my 92 zxr 250.

Get it serviced straight away, get the brake fluid and coolant changed as well.
Those products deteriorate with sitting and should be freshened up before you start riding again.
As far as cost ????????????

Give it to me for a week or two.
I,ll look after ya mate,no worries.
As to cost,I reckon they decide on that when ya, walk in the door,
wear old gear an a scratched up helmet,bludge a smoke off the guy behind the counter an look real worryed.If your taking your bike anywhere near a shop you should be.

Such cynicism. Some of us who are mechanically challenged (don't know a spanner from a wrench) have to rely on the professional expertise and integrity of the people in those shops. I've clocked up 30,000 km on two bikes in just on a year, and have had them both serviced at 4,000 k intervals so I've had a bit of experience in the matter. I've been to Red Baron, Colemans and Mt Eden Motorcycles and I've had good service from all 3. It's a bit hard to compare because of differences in the work done but a full service would probably average out at a couple of hundred. Most of the cost is labour and yes you could probably do it yourself - but in my case I prefer to pay someone who knows what he's doing. Give Neville at Mt Eden a call and tell him exactly what you want done - he should be able to give you a fairly accurate figure.

Well that sounds promising, i was hopeing it was gona be around the couple hundy mark and not more like $500 or sumthing stupid like that.

Im like you MikeL......... but just one question, isnt a spanner the same as a wrench? haha im most proberbly gona get shot for being so naive.

Ill give a few shops a call tomorrow and get it booked in, make sure it's all thunderbirds are go just in time for 4 weeks of Xmas riding
