Fisrt step in the buildup is to sell the 640, someone out there's gotta want a 640e thats only done 1000km/16hrs since it's last service.
So why sell the 640 and go to a DRZ? Presumably it would be cheaper to use the proven bike you've already got?

A couple of reasons really. Firstly, i've reached a level on the 640 where it was becomming a limiting factor in advancing my off road skills, it's just too heavy to keep up with the faster guy's on the rough stuff and the speeds i found my self on the open stuff (public accessed tracks) was starting to worry me bit.

Secondly, the drz is a great trail bike that requires somewhat less maintanance than the highly strung enduro type bikes and is a proven platform for doing the safari, there have been a number of drz's hapily finish in the top 20 so it should be sweet for me.

I can also build up a used bike for training and setting up, then buy either a new or mint condition bike to swap the gear over proir to the event, without spending too much more $$$$.

Just a good value bike that can do what i need really.
