My wife is getting into Adventure riding.

I have been a long time biker, and my wife is now also starting to enjoy biking as well.
She has not done a lot of riding before, but is now in the process of getting her licence. So, some months back I bought her a great bike to learn on and also do a little "off roading"

A 2004 - DT-175. This is great bike, 2 stroke, Kick start, Low kms, and very light. Well suited to starting out.

Here are a few pics of our first few rides together. Mainly around Franklin and up the Awhitu peninsular.

We started on the tar seal, which she enjoyed, but as soon as we went a little off road, that was when she really discovered how much fun can be had a little off the beaten track.

Who knows... perhaps we could be doing the "Dusty Butt" or "Capital Coast Adventure" in the not so distant future.

Does anyone have some suggestions of off road type areas around Auckland that would be good for a learner to get more practice?

first thing mate...buy her a good set of riding boots, save her ankles.. sneakers not so good...

good on her for getting out and having a go.

there was a thread some where in here about an adventure training park..
close to Auckland..
take her out on a bit of gravel... get a feel for it, theres a fair bit on the dusty butt ride ..

plenty of coastal gravel south from where you are, DT175 is a cool bike to learn on maybe move up to the DT230 as her ability improves. Dont forget to get her signed up to KB

the DT is a great bike to learn on....
there was a thread on here a while ago about off road rides out your way.. see if i can find it......

As part of the training, I took Jackie out to Thundercross Valley Bike Park. (Just south of Tuakau). I took most of the road gear off, to give her less to worry about.

We started on the learner/kids track to build some confidence, and then progressed onto the "B" track. This is a track of around 8kms of rolling to steep farmland, for beginners

A few "moments" and the odd stall and fall on the bigger uphills, but she made it up all of them on her own. All in all very well done on her first visit to Thundercross.

My wife has been a passenger all these years and finally she has taken the leap and today we picked up a 250 Sherpa for her to learn on and get her licence.

Great to see the chicks getting involved and enjoying it eh.
